Strange News

out of USA today:

Silky goats: Nexia Biotechnologies in Canada has created goats that can produce spiders silk in their milk. This can be harvested for industrial applications such as making light but strong bulletproof vests.

Yes it is, but the way I read it the first time was even weirder... Nexia Biotechnologies in Canada has created goats that can produce silk spiders in their milk.

About 10 years ago, when I worked for a company that extracted hemophilia drugs from human plasma, I read about a goat that was genetically engineered to produce human hemophilia factors in its milk. Just spiced in the human gene. I'd like to see 'em do something really useful like splice genes from cocoa plants into cows so they make chocolate milk.

OK, this is just flat out strange....who the hell thinks this stuff up? And why cross a spider and a goat??

Geez......conjures up all sorts of strange images doesn't it?

I'm trying to picture what a goats web would look like.

Suppose it would make production of string cheese easier as well since the string part is already built in.

Gotta feel bad for those baby goats though. Imagine trying to drink your milk and swallow thread at the same time....yuk!
