HELP ! Refrig Leaked FREON; Gushed in my face

Anybody know the Freon (R-12?) in old Frigs --from 1975 in my case?

Any danger from getting it to where you breath --like a line bursting to come out like a gasseous gusher for 3-4 secs.

Supposed to be odorless---but I could smell it. Maybe something put into it to make it smell.

Being Sunday, staff is away and will replace Frig in morn.

Should I just put it out in hall way for overnite(i.e. thr Frig) ? ?

Anybody know about this stuff?

[Freon is combo of carbon, flourine, hydrogen and some other halogens like chlorine.]

Du Pont claims it's not dangerous--errr, the own it.

Advice neeeded from the Task Foece soon !

ThanX,
P.S. Have worried BossCaTT at home....

Did oil blast out?
Usually there is a pretty good dose of lubricant in the system, you might have got a good shot of that...

Sounds like if I didn't go into cardiac arrest or start having palpatatations immediately, just chill out ! Had fans all over the place.

Had fan blowing on floor and window open when it happened as ice pack had formed and being melted.Plus another fan in room. Have at least two fans in every room--a habit I acquired from days when I relied on them plus cross-ventalation to get me through NYC summers.

Thanks for your advice.

Nothing to fear unless you burn it. then it creates phosgene(sp) gas (nerve gas)
seeing as you have already ventilated the house your fine. Leave the fridge where it is for now.

Also you insulted the O3 layer; but if you're breathing, all else should be okay.

If you are uncomfortable and concerned about the leaking freon, the staff should have an off hours phone number for contacts like this. Find it and give them a call. That is what I would do. Besides legally you need to have a working fridge at all times. They cannot let you go without fridge and should be replaced immediately. I don't care if its sunday, Its thier repsonisbility to make sure those appliances are in working order and free of possible danger.

This is the Big Apple, Neo, with funky rent regs.

Gotta finesse the matter and keep palms greased--or will be paying for it for another 26 years.

Plus BOSS CaaT starting new job in morn--so we went out to breath good NYC noxious air.

So long as it's contained and the freon is internal to the frig compartment, with open widows in every room (warm nite) and fans aplenty, I think I'll be OK and smooze a new frig without making "noise".

The harm was the "first hit"--so far OK. Odor due to the piping it was contained in for near 3 decades--I am told.

The new refrigerants, I am told , are more dangerous. How the heck do people get their car A/C's recharged ? Don't know if they can work with the existing car A/C's. Is there a "black market" in freon?

Err...sorry for the insult to the Ozone --but not DOOG's fault

I am the victim of modern technology.

ThanX, everybody.
TechIMO TASK FORCE STRUCK AGAIN !
