How many rebates do u currently have in processing?

From 'Doc's online steals and Deals' thread, I got about:
$360 rebates from RebatesHQ
$30 Rebate from RebateStatus
$20 Rebate from Philips
----------------------------------------
$410 Rebates yet to come in.

This whole rebate thing definitely complicates my budget. I look at a deal and say wow, only $10 for a 40 GB HD,100 CDRs, and a SmartMedia reader and blindly turning my eye towards the price of $125 before rebates .
I've never done so many rebates before at a time, and I sure hope they all come in... what would really suck is if RebatesHQ shut down or something.

The bottom line is that I should stay away from the Steals Forums if I wanna save some money .... that thread is evil .... I should stick to this forum.

Good decision. But you'll change your mind when the checks start coming in.

That's "if", Shahani.

I'm at about my all time low. Only waiting for a $50 check from Amazon. I just got a $15 check from Memorex yesterday, rebate from a 64-MB Smart Media card. Took 10 weeks, two phone calls and one fax to get it. So $15 minus phone calls, faxes, my time, I fugure I'd have been better off just getting the card from someone else.

For United States residents, the Federal Trade Commission is interested and will prosecute those companies that do not fulfill their obligations regarding rebates. The entity that makes the offer is responsible (i.e. manufacturer or distributor) for its fulfillment and cannot pass the responsibilty to the rebate processor.

But note, if the entity goes bankrupt, you may get a Pyrrhic victory and receive nothing. Make sure the offering entity is SOLVENT. Keep all receipts and details.

Personally, I not only fill in the coupon, but I also print out a larger version of the coupon information for legibility. This also lets them know you probably have a record of such.

I once got burned on several items I really didn't need, but only purchased on a complete rebate scheme. The issuing company really didn't exist. After such experience, I never pay more for an item than its worth. Companies depend upon some customers not bothering with the rebates.

But as I said, I don't pay more than I feel the product is worth without a rebate. A rebate is just extra. In this light, I've done quite well. I can live with the couple that stiffed me a couple of years ago. At that time, I had some $500 worth of rebates outstanding. I got took for about $40. This was before the FTC got into the action.
