I'm so tempted to say "fender-gap it". Fender sheet metal on American cars is just about as thick as a standard plug gap. Use the fender edge inside the engine compartment to adjust, and you'll be close to optimum gap if you don't have the specs. An old auto shop trick learned during the points and condenser days.

Anyone know what "Dwell" is, anymore?

'Bout 54 thou.

Give or take.

Just do your best to make 'em all the same.

You can look 'em up at www.motorcraft.com

Realy that is about right, it takes more energy to jump a wider gap.

But you want a balance to.

To wide of a gap and the charge knocks the spark out.
To little and its not enough spark to ignite it.

Nowadays .045 to .060 should work.

Dwell? Yes the amount of degrees the points are closed or is it open I forget.

gone are the days of "use a matchbook cover" and it seemed most american cars were".028-.032" and points were .017

Matchbook cover gapping is over because there aren't any matchbooks!! When I drove a cab, the company used the same model. It had a huge fleet. The mechanic would fender gap it.

Not really, I still use the old chevys with points, and they run just fine, but the new cars are much more comfy on long trips.
can't imagine driving the 67 chevy dumptruck 100 miles lol.....
