silk comes from what animal or plant?

Basically what the title says. I got this silk shirt i bought long time ago. I love it but it gets this damable smell to it at times. It drives me nuts. Its clean and all. I been wearing it today then took it off for short while then put it back on and that funny smell is on the shirt now. Doesnt' matter how many times I wash it, it comes and goes and I wonder if silks are just known for this or if I just got a bad shirt?

TIA

NeoStar

Edit: don't ask me to describe the smell cuz the smell is foriegn to me. I have no stored knowledge of this smell in my brain.

Ummm...silk comes from the cocoon of the silk worm, a kind of caterpillar.

Silk worms. From the cocoon. Very fine threads. Woven. Very natural and comfy fabric. Should not smell. Wash well in woolite and dry in open air. Should be OK.

Also good silk very expensive.

ya it was an expensive shirt. hmmmm okay, i'll try the woolite thingy instead. It smelled fine this morning when I put it on and then I took it off for a while and drapped it on my bed so not to get it wrinkled and then put it back on and that funny smell was there.

Love the feel of silk and yes it is indeed comfty.

So im wearing a worm eh?

Hmm
Does anybody know if smoke + silk makes an odd smell?
Has this only happened since you started working at the store?
Maybe something in the air there mixing with the silk?

No, Neostar, you are no wearing the worm, you are wearing the, err, byproducts of the worm.

Enjoy the fabric, it's nice stuff. But beware of wearing silk pj's on silk sheets - they have a tendency to slip and slide on each other.

Cheers
Mick

It is "possible" that this is counterfeit silk and instead some of the polyester blends. Those are noted to attach body oils and have an odor.
