Kids truly no helping this guy

http://www.techimo.com/forum/showthr...threadid=21142

i don't know how many of you remember this post of mine, but here is an update.(hope this is the right forum)

i was telling him that i just rma my hdd because of the 5 bad clusters.

he said that he thinks his hdd hasn't worked right since he got it.

so i said why don't you return it since you don't need the reciept(he can't find his). all you need is the serial number off the hdd.

he said he doesn't want to be without his computer for as long as it takes to get a new one.

mind you his system still doesn't work right.

his way of thinking doesn't make any since to me at all.

maybe someone here can help me to make since of this.

i rather be without my system for a couple of weeks and have it working right than use it like he is.

i also told him that i would give him a copy of virtual linux that runs without a hdd. and i told him he could still get online. so this way he would still have a system.

he doesn't want that.

thanks for listening.

robin

Im not sure why he needs to rma his hard drive, what kind of drive is it? I think if he writes to zeros and then ran the test and if still shows errors then he can rma, western will tell you to do this to get the error code, they won't rma without an error code from thier diagonistics. maxtors same way. im not sure of the other manufatures.

From read other thread sounds like this guy just doesn't want to listen to you, also appears to me that he is a bit jeoulous of you because you have successfully built two rigs and he hasn't and feels miffed because of the female/male thingy. That is his problem not yours robin.

If he is still not listening to you I would just walk away from the situation. I personally won't deal with people like that. I have no patiences for people like that, if they not willing to listen and learn screw them.

I don't think is the system he wants to be without, I think its the fact that he will be without intenet connection. As you stated you offered a vitrual linux for him but its pretty clear the guy doesn't want to take the time to use that nor learn at all.

You have made the options very clear, now the ball is in his court and you don't need to do nary a thing.

I agree with Neo, Robin. It's hard to say exactly what his problem is, but Neo gave some good possibilities.

I'd just let it slide until HE figures out what his priorities are and realizes you were trying to help.

You've done your civic duty with this guy. Time to give him the old, "Here's a quarter, call someone who cares."

BTW, my sister had a similar problem. Her HP had a severe problem of some sort and her "fix" was to try to install a pirated copy of XP. I kept telling her she was wasting her time and amazingly it didn't work. She ended up paying HP for support and a new set of restore CDs (who knows where her first set went) and was able to fix it. But in the meantime she was without a computer for a couple months.

Some people will run 'em till they quit.
Sad thing, but it happens.

see it all the time

Well robin, you are like many of us on the boards. we like our sysems running flawlessly. We all here at timo go take the time to learn why we have a problem with our systems and do something about it and get the right help from each other in this great place we call techIMO. We all here are more techicially inclinded and have no fear of our pc's at all because we keep learning in the process.

The coworker of yours is a type that just can't be bothered with system upkeep. He seems the type to want to be online and online NOW no matter the health of his computer. That again is his problem. Apparently he doesn't mind. Therefore his unwillingness to be without a comp.

Also remember that many of us here at timo have 2+ machines and we are hardly ever completely down so if one of our beloved machines takes a ill and can't diagnosis teh problem we are not far from help.

The guy just doesn't care about computing and the innards like you do. You have an interest in the field and he doesn't. With your interst you keep learning and beefing up your systems, and then you got the ignorant coworker who just wants to show you up and feels miffed of your successful build and my bet your coworker may be a bit of a shovenist male who thinks females don't belong in what was once considered a strictly a male field.

You are doing a good job at what you do because you love the learning and the challenge and are good at it. That is all that should matter.
