Talk New Orleans, here I come!

Well, I know I haven't been posting as much as I like, but I still come by and hang out for a few minutes whenever I can. I have some big news though....I got orders to New Orleans!

I will be stationed at NAS JRB New Orleans, VR-54, which is a C-130 squadron. I am excited to start my Naval Career in such a fun city! I was really hoping for NAS Ft. Worth because it would put me 45 minutes from my fiancee until we get married, but this will only be 8 hours or so. Wish me luck!!!

Timbob

Hi Timbob

Wishing you lots of luck and fun, too, though maybe not too much fun hehe

Thank you for serving our Country

I lived in the Big Easy from 78 to 79. Some of the nicest people I've ever met were there. Be careful though, a buddy of mine got me hooked on Oyster Po-Boys within weeks of my meeting him.

If you like coffee, make sure you check out Cafe Du Monde. AWESOME coffee.

When your fiancee visits, take her to Bacco. It's pricey, but it's THE BEST restaurant I've ever been in, and I've been in many hundreds. The service there is world-class and the food is unforgettable.

EDIT: Yikes, three typos in one message.

Pretty good Beignets too! I think I'm starting to have a food flashback.

Thanks for that link, Xeroid. It reminded me that I needed to order more coffee. It costs $7.99 per can to buy it locally, but only $4.60 online. Even with the shipping it works out cheaper to order it online.

Congrats!

I am stationed at Randolph AFB in San Antonio. i just drove to Baton Rouge this weekend to see the Citadel (my alma mater)play LSU. Beware of I-10. Man, the roads are bad and constantly under construction in LA!!! Not a horrible drive to make.

Congrats on the engagement. Enjoy NO.

Good to see you back, TimBob!

I love NOLA.....probably my favorite city on the planet. The city does have its "shady elements", but for me, that just adds to it's mistique. I loved spending time there (while I was stationed in Mississippi), but I don't know how living there would be.

There's always something to do there, and the food is second to none (IMO). I did Mardi Gras once, and that was enough to last me 3 lifetimes. My advice is to go out and enjoy the city, but look out for yourself and your buddies.

I hope your Navy career goes well for you, and you enjoy your first assignment.

Thanks for all the encouragement and the recommendations everyone! I'll be sure to check it all out and report back what I find! I think one of the first things I will do when I get there is to start looking for pieces for a new pc (since I don't have one anymore!!!!!) Thanks again for all of your well-wishes.
