Opinions on Amway?

Hello!

A buddy of mine invited me to take a look at a video tape that would reveal an "incredible new opportunity for creating billionaires"...blah blah blah...so I watched the tape. It ended up being about this Great New company known as Quixtar. Well after about 2 minutes of Google searches, I came to realize that Quixtar is a Multi-Level-Marketing (MLM) opportunity promoted by Alticor, formerly Amway. Quixtar has taken control of the North American Amway business.

*sigh*

All I can remember about Amway is that it was a "legal" pyramid money-making scheme where you got X amount of people to sign up (for a $120 fee), and they got more people to sign up, they signed more people up, etc. You made a VERY small amount of money off of each person who signed up under your name. I had several friends give Amway a try and most of them ended up earning about $8!!! Some of them even lost money.

Quote:
The majority of the wealth of the tiny number of top-ranked distributors in this country comes not just from the sale of Amway products, but from selling motivational materials and organizing seminars and rallies for the people below them
So, what do I tell this buddy of mine? He and his wife are sold on this Quixtar deal...I don't think he knows it's Amway online...even if he does, he seems to think he's going to be rich in 6-8 years.

Opinions???

Thanks!
Mike

Well it is not for me. However I have a friend who in 3 months achived the first level of real earnings I believe it was diamond. The money is not made in bringing in new members it is in convincing new members to buy the product from amway and trying to get others to do the same.

It is selling a product to your own group of distributers. My friend was making about 1000 dollars a month when I got out of the thing. I Know he is making about at least 10,000 dollars a month now at the tender age of 26.

It works if you work your but off and take alot of refusals. Quixtar is one better in that you do not deliver product anymore which makes it all easier. I liked the Idea but I am no salesman.

If you exhaust the receptive population of the us the bottom tier is really screwed but that is years and years away.

If you can talk freely to strangers and you can take repeated rejection with a goal in mind then it is for you. I believe the take rate is something like 10 % so to get 10 people you have to be rejected 90 times. Don't quote me on the numbers they are examples.

See, that's just it...neither is he! He wasn't even the one who explained the concept to me, he had a "specialist" come over to do that. Plus he's military, so time is definitely NOT on his side.

How come even Amway or Quixtar promoters won't even be up front about it and say what it is? It's always this "great new way to make money!" It seems that mentioning Amway is taboo...even for the people who buy into it.

I must ask you Epidemic...how much time did your friend have to put into it to be successful? Was he working any other jobs at the time?

Just curious...

he had his own computer business that he sold out of after the first year because he had replaced his income and brough his wife home. But he worked it all the time. If you call it working. he would BS with someone and spring on them the secret business oppertunity call back thing on them. and two or three nights a week he would go and show the plan.

Basically I agree with the not mentioning the name of the company because it has a lot of baggage that goes along with it. It is better to approach it at a later date.

I am not recomending either business just that, to bad mouth it because you know someone who failed in it is silly. There are successful people and they make a mint. There are dedicated people who make nothing or little as well.

But to simply give it the old "oh it is a legal pyramid scheme." routine is wrong. Hell even pepsi takes on some of its characteristics in that they demand their employees only buy pepsi products. Quixtar does the same thing only they suggest it.

It is a great business decision to only buy product from yourself and better your company rather than other peoples.

I did some analysis of quixtar's distributor pricing and found it to be comparable with store prices usually. Finally you are not limited to only the "amway soaps and such" You buy zenith sanyo and kraft just like you do normally.

Well rant off. It is not for me. But it is a viable business. and people fail in all sorts of businesses.

Oh yea it is very cultish when you get down to the nutz and boltz of the meetings. ooooooooo
