Outdoors Rant: Some people never satified.

Well today kinda got pretty mad. Let me go back some.
Some of your may remember my thread Win98se Shutdown Re-visited

Well I had gone out on a limb with this computer, Traded i for some stuff. Actually ended up getting the worse end of the deal but that was alright because these are suppose good friends of mine. Their old 120 computer supposably died and I offered them my 333amd in exchange. I had purchased memory some time back for this particular computer to set it to 196. the memory was purchased during the time the prices were high. Anyways, come to find out that this computer was having the exact same problem as the 120 which I did not find out too way too late. So only two components being in the computer was from the former computer it was determined it was the modem that was causing the problems. I had told him to replace this modem about 2 years ago which he never did. So I had told him I would snail mail him directions of how to replace the modem. I emailed the first copy in case he checked his mail eslewhere and also stated that I will be snail mailing a copy of it as well.

The whole point in doing this was I wanted a case/350watt psu from them. I got some fans as well out of the deal. it just so happened that thier 120 computer had "died". And the other whole point is that they are broke, his wife was just in a car wreck and they had to come up wih th deductable first before the insurance company would fix thier brand new rig. its a jeep something 2000. Very nice rig IMO. Anyways, I knew this and I also knew that he was laid off for the summer from his job and I thought what a perfect opportunity I'll make tem a sweet deal so I can get my other mobo loaded. (didn't have an atx case). So did this and fixed the computer up for them. Spent many hours on this computer cause when I left the first time only issue was shutdown, it would NOT shut down during operation. only when you were finished with the computer, come home 1 hour drive. and get paged saying its restarting and shutting down.

so I went back up the following week and worked on it again, and I said I am not sure what your problem is, only issue is when you go to shut down the computer it only hangs. It runs perfectly fine. Get home this time took more than an hour to get home cuz of rush hour. I get paged yet again. and again and again. and i call him up. Long Distance. And find out its doing same thing as old computer, and only happens when he is playing games. Duh...he should have told me that in first place. Anyways.

now what makes me sooo damm pissed, is that I went out on a limb to help these people (who are suppose to be my good friends) and they send me email back and said, this computer is so stupid so we went and put an emachine on layaway and he says tey hope they can keep making the payments for 3 months. $600 dollar emachine. (Specs: It's EMachine 1.6 MHz and AMD Athlon with CD-RW, 128RAM, 40GB hard driver and four USB ports, Printer HP 1050, and monitor 15" for $600.)

What galls me the most is the fact that they have no pateinces with computer and don't want to bother with purchasing a new modem for the 333amd i gave them. I asked them what they were doing with computer. He said again, this computer stupid computer we use it till we get our new computer payoff from layaway and then I can have it back. Im keeping the email too. I'll be dammed if i pay to get it back, I busted off many hours working on this computer and NOTHING was wrong with it except it would not shut down correctly, it was running 98se. I ran this computer at home before giving it to him and i ran both linux and 98se and I never had narry a problem with this enter setup. specs are exact same except for hard drive and modem. those were his out of old computer. and he is try tell me its the computer doing it.

I don't think I will beging to understand these people anymore. now that im not around tem all the time i see more of what happens. They spend money like you would not belive and yet at same time they are talking about how they are work hard to get thier debts paid off so they can buy a house. what the heck are they doing just out and spend spend spend money they don't have while that money should be going for thier future. they have a litle girl now too.

Just really pisses me off seeing people making stupid decisions just because they are inpatience or don't want to hassle with getting one lousy part for less then 50 bucks.

I really have a hard time understanding people who are in debt and continue to spend money and at the same time talk about thier dream of owning a home. Owning a home has been a dream of mine for years and i work hard to clean up my credit a now that its finally clean as of 2 years ago, i try hard to keep my credit clean, my credit is extremely important to me.

Sure I could go out and spend abadonly and make be whopping purchases wih high intrest rates but I know in thelong run is gonna hurt me. All the parts i have built up with my computers i have collected and hoarded over several years and keep hanging onto parts so i can hopfully build someting later. I finally now have 2 computers. One for me and one for the kids. To me that is alot, and im gonna get the other one back cuz im not gonna let them throw it away. they are the type of peopl that would just stick it in a dumpster, and if tey do that, they will get my wrath cuz there is nothing wrong with the mobo/cpu/memory. Nothing wrong with it.

This is also the last time I do any servicing or and deals for them.

Sorry for the rant. just really pisses me off.

Neo, Some people have no idea the trouble you've gone to for them...
Some people just feel as though they're entitled...
And then, some people are just STOOPID!

But it hardly diminishes your efforts, because you always know at least you tried.

hahaha, um if i let it all out, i'd get banned for sure. So I used clean words.

I just hope I get the computer back and they don't try to toss it in the dumpster, I have already told them I want it back. and no they will not get thier case back as work is done for. they made the choice to go spend money they dont' have.

Im just peeved, i guess im worried cuz he has already made couple comments in the past that want to toss it in the dumpster and i fired right back at him not to do that.

a 333amd with total of 198 mb memory is a damm good computer if you ask me. Hard to come buy "new/old" computers like that for me. its not just everyday that I can build a "new" computer out of old parts.

Sigh I just don't want it to get sent to an early death when I can turn that machine into one for my kids so they each have thier own. Plus the fact that I bought that memory about 2 months before doing the trade. prices were too damm high when i bought that from crucial.

Yes, when we start feeling resentments or being used, it's time to step back. Well, ideally we do before we start feeling that way.

Just remember how you feel now the next time they ask you for something for nothing

** Just saw your new post. Neo, have you told them that you want the comp back and why? What did they say?

Yup and if they end up calling me later to service thier yucky emachine, I'll just say, well gotta check my schudule and get back to you, and then send a quote to them via email/snailmail with cost for driving, time and such and if they still want me to service thier emachine when they get it they will have to pay upfront.

cuz im not driving that much for that and besides i hate emachines, I service one from time to time that is my bf couson and that is about as far as I will go on an emachine. I'd rather service a hp before an e.

So we will see. but ya im not doing nothing for them no more. no way, they hardly done anything for me and im tired of being the giver and giver and giver and just smile for nothing. geezzz

Actually NeoStar1, the newer eMachines are not too shabby to work on, I do the cleaning & stuff on my sister's new 1.2Ghz Celeron eMachine along with her older 433Mhz rig.

Personally I don't like the all-onboard rigs, but this 1.2Ghz isn't too bad.

As for the unappreciative folks that you've done the work for, you handled it perfectly

I hear ya Neo. I've got acquaintances that try to get me to do everything for them for nothing. Sorry, my time is money these days, and if it isn't, then it is precious ( hey, I should get to relax and have a beer at least once and a while )

On the other hand, I also have very appreciative friends who compensate me for my time and efforts. I either get a good meal and a couple of barely pops out of it, or given something in exchange ( 4 sets of good home speakers, a Technics receiver, cd player and other various things they've upgraded....methinks I got a good deal )

It's the ones that expect you to fix everything for them at the drop of a hat that irk me. I like to help people out, but don't just show up at my door and tell me that I need to replace your timing belt! Especially if it is something labor/time intensive. Hey, I'm saving you time and money by doing this, at least cut me in on the savings!
