PC Gaming spoiled me?

I just bought my son a PS2 and rented a couple games. (007, Burnout, Stuntman)
Is it me or do PS2 and/or console graphics for that much, suck?

I am not very impressed...we are playing on a 50" projection which could be part of the resoluton problm, but even looking at screen shots @ PS2 sites....what they consider "eye candy"< i consider "super nintendo" graphics.

My 7 year old say it is ok, but I think it looks awefull...........so did the PC gaming graphics spoil me? or do PS2/xbox/gamecube really pretty good?

Yes you are spoiled.

Television has crappy resolution. So even if the game machine could produce fantastic graphics, it's still gonna suck viewing it on a TV.

Quote:
For NTSC, the picture occupies approximately 480 of the 525 scan lines. For broadcasts the portion of a scan line that is visible can hold up to about 440 dots so a grid 480 high by 440 wide represents the maximum amount of picture detail possible.

For $100 more, I would almost rather upgrade his PC to a P4....he don't seem to mind, but I feel like its junk for $200

It's is. Then they get you for the cost of the games too. Sometimes up to $70 a pop.

My brother in law alway telling me about the killer graphics on ps2, until he played driver on my puter, and it's nothing great, but still kicks TV's arse IMO!

I had to choose between buying Medal of Honor for the PS2 and or the PC. I decided to get it for the PS2.... Bummer. The graphics are no where near as nice as they are on the PC. Tha main reason for bying it for the PS2.... so that I can take it over to a couple of friends and play it over there etc. They don't look too bad (playing on 55" HDTV), but no where as nice as it looks on the pc.....

Yeah sweeper, it doent look horrible on the 50" just horrible compared to the PC.

PC makes all consoles look like Sega genesis

Well, I asked my son this morning if we should return it, and to my surprise, he said "yeah dad, it looks cheap and is boring". I almost forgot about load times. Stuntman has like a 30 second load time each new area you go or if you want to restart the mission. Oh Well, Thankfully I wasn't feeling extremely loose with the BestBuy Card and did't buy any games.
The reason I went with the PS2 was because he already has like 40 PS1 games and I would hate to start completely over, plus I didnt have to buy all new controllers.

But, after playing PC games, console just looks horrible and very dated.

Maybe, I'll give Xbox a shot.

Console Gamers: The Freedom Game Pass from Blockbuster is the best thing they ever did. I am so glad I got the month pass. We rented 2 games with the PS2, he didnt like one of them, so instead of being out $6 and stuck with a game he wouldnt play for the rest of the rental period, we simply brought it back and picked out a new one.

They stopped renting game systems here, so no try b4 buy anymore....hopefully returning PS2 won't be much of a hassle.

I used to be TOTAL anti-console...but I've warmed to them since getting an XBox (you can surely look up some past debates where I was completely pro-PC).

Lets look at costs - kickarse PC can be well over $1k and you have to upgrade. NOW I know all you alls love to do that but we are looking at it from an objective point of view...most common monitor is 19" (21" cost much more last I checked) which is pitents compared to a television. YES much sharper and YES you can go to insane 6000*20000 resolution wiht your $400 video card.

Console - $200 for PS2/XBox...$20-30 per controller, $50 for games (PC also). Can have party times with buddies and you can (just about) play online also. I got mine for the multiplayer pretty much....I don't have $$$$$$ to put down on multiple computers and/or don't have a ton of spare parts to put one together.

So for me - console = easier on the wallet...

Try an HD tv?

I'm not that picky about graphics *shrugs*..guess some of you all have better eyes for it than I do. Until PCs go wayyyyy down, the console will always have it's place in the mass market...I doubt ever replacing the PC as a gaming platform (I will ALWAYS use both) but standing beside it. Many others just like the TRUE plug and play design of a console -- nothing like getting a new game and being able to play it right away, as soon as you get home. PC..hmmm...(with me -) first install it, then find out you have to install a patch for it on Win2k, oh wait then your video card needs updated drivers in order to work.....whatever. I know some take pleasure in doing all that...those are the same who take pleasure in reformatting their HD every week

On the other hand, I would have gotten completely sick of Rogue Spear single player if it wasn't for the mods that I could create and download for it. The pretty much made that games replayability factor...something you cannot do on a console. I love being able to 'hack' games and mess around changing values

Anyh00, on a forum inundated with uber computer geek-types, it is no surprise that many prefer the PC, if not just for it's 'tinkerability'.

I don't know. I've been playing console games since Pong. They have come a long way. There really is no comparison between console and PC games though. Realistically, they are apples and oranges in the gaming world, although we are pretty close to seeing them become one entity. Personally, I look at my games as needing a fun factor above and beyond visuals. I let visuals and supposed content "get" me with my last PS2 purchase ( test drive ). Horrible game IMHO, and why I bought it I really don't know why, cuz I've never liked any of their other games in the series. As far as getting the most out of the machines visuals, ever think of getting one of these JEM adapters to hook up the PS2 directly into a PC monitor? I keep trying to get the wife to let me buy one, but she doesn't want me to totally hog the computer with both the CPU and my PS2 I don't remember the link right off hand, but I'll see if I can find it and post it.
