Hi, if u r gonna try WingChun make sure u do some research on the guy who is gonna teach ya. Cuz, there are a lot of people who go to certain 'Wushu Kungfu WingChun Classes' Which are basically run by novices who will teach u very basic, or incorrect forms.
I personally think WingChun is the best. It is without doubt the most practical form of KungFu, (I mean would you really like to do Drunken style, or Monkey style Kung Fu...U see it u wouldnt want to do it !!)
All other Kung Fu focus on animals like the bear, Praying Mantis etc...Wing Chun is based on the human body. Once you know how to keep relaxed the power comes naturally...(some call it Chi)
The human skeleton and muscles are looked at. Punches are not a trivial matter. The way the elbow is positioned, how the fist forms, when to form the fist, what knuckles to use, why u have to use the triceps not the biceps are all examples of the scrupilous detail and perfection Wing Chun teaches in its first Basic Punch.
Take a few lessons with a good teacher and you will see the true magnificence of this form.
Size, Sex doesnt matter for this Martial Art. Infact this Martial Art is the only Martial Art made by a woman...(A 16th Century Nun created this martial Art who taught to a lady called Wing Chun, who beat the local Chinese War Lord infront of her whole town on the day she was to be forcefully married to him!!)
However, if you do like weight training etc.. it can be beneficial as you can have more power in your punches etc.. But, as in my classes there are a variety of different people who are from dfferent ethnic and cultural backgrounds, different Sex, and Weight. We do have beer belly peeps here too who fight exceedingly well. I my self am around 10 stone and have no problems
Some of the Senior Students look like extremely weak pushovers
, but once you spar with them you know u dont mess with them!!
I hope noone i know is reading this!!
Any way hope that fills the gap for some info on my fabulous MArtial Art... this is a martial Art you should all at least have a few lessons in.
