ME, but we had to do that stuff in Math 345 (Advanced Engineering Math.)

The ding-dang proofs in that class got so long that you could fill every blackboard in class and run out of room. The instructor would run down the hall & borrow a rolling blackboard so we could finish. Gaaah!

Thank God for PC's!

BTW, I never worked as an ME at all. I jumped around through several design diciplines, but always wound up programming.

All the engineers hated programming, so I always did it.

Couldn't help it.

Variational Calculus and Integral Equations were my favorites.

This is like Math 101.

But yeah, Nixona, you need to keep two things in mind:

1) Don't simply copy the answer or do it blindly. Understand each step and why its done the way it done.

2) Practice. Helps a lot.

Math is by and large very logical and methodical. So, I'd encourage you never to get confused but to look at any problem as a challenge and solve by "first principles".

Overall, math is not difficult. (Boolean Algebra sucks though.)

It's a math for bio sciences course. It's strange, because the textbook is a work in progress by the professor that will be published soon. I do fine on the "exercises" (50 or so problems) but every few pages he throws out a practice problem which is turned in for credit that has no basis in the text. It's a problem like the one I mentioned, with a page to answer and prove. What a pain. I'm going to sit down and try to figure it out here in a minute, good to know I have somewhere to go and get some help without standing in line at the math lab waiting for a TA.

Don't be afraid to ask the professor for help either!
If you ask for help, just think, he will be able to match your face with your name. That's always good!

About a quarter of the way through the term, my Intermediate Calculus professor, after finishing demonstrating some interesting point, stopped, laid down his chalk, and said, "Well, that's it. From here on, it's just one damn proof after another."
