LAUSD wants to ban soda machines at schools.

http://www.nbc4.tv/news/1632617/detail.html

Their excuse is that there are too many obese people in the country. OK, wait a minute, even if it was a good excuse. Why do unobese people have to suffer also? Now, I'm not saying that the LAUSD has a good excuse, that excuse is BS. We have much more to worry about than obesity at school. how about first they put up metal detectors, take care of all the drugs, alcohol, violence and sex on campus before they take away the soda machines.

I'm all for it.. There's no reason to have soda machines at school. As for the "suit" who was about as intelligent as a goat on CNN this morning preaching about the healthy qualities of soda. Well, give me a break.

"Soda is part of a balanced diet." - Give me a break. THAT'S BS.

I'm not so sure that I'd argue that it's a major cause of obesity as I'd argue that it's just .. not good for you.

It's about time!!!

3 sodas a day is equal to a large meal calorie wise.. It's that supersize thing..

Dude I suck down pop like there's no tomorrow and I'm FAR from obese. Now granted I'm not a typical person I can eat a whole pizza and not a gain a pound
However, that means I CAN'T have a pop!!!
gimme a break
typical.. they want to fix a problem so they put a HUGE band aid over it and say THERE I fixed it

You know what would be good...
For one thing we have a reading program that rewards kids with pizza hut... hmmm

Why don't we have a program similar to that except for excercising? Get kids OUT OF THE HOUSE!! Off the computer, off their duffs and outside excercising or being playful. Parents should also join in, and get the kids excercising with them...
A pop is not goign to solve the problem...

I agree with vass as far as the exercising part. I don't think it's so much the food these kids are eating... but the sheer lack of activity.

I think that if a parent is trying to keep the kids on a good diet.
And Be Responsible..
It's really the school working against them if there are junk food lunches and soda machines..

I agree about your activity comment vass and brandon

I don't understand how we can go decades with just milk and juices just fine, yet everyone's up in arms over losing their tooth-rot. I never warmed to the idea of having commercial fast food or Taco Bell on campus. Bring back Hair-net Helga and her sloppy spatula!
