I was just clicking my tongue and thinking, "What next? Arrest some woman for putting too much sugar on the kid's Wheaties?"
Then I read the last line of the story: Quote: |
The sheriff said Jefferson County Children's Services had been contacted about Hibbits' children in the past.
| Sounds to me like she's on somebody's **** list.

It's too bad that some people are too stupid to take care of their kids, but it's still their kids.

I dunno... second degree burns are pretty serious. Neglect is neglect. It's the same to me as if she had left a pot of hot water within reach of the kids and they scalded themselves, or if she left them locked in the car on a hot summer day.

Yeah that's a serious sunburn, but I've had a couple of those myself. And you know with a sunburn, you don't know how bad it really is till you get home that night. Shucks, I'm still peeling from my last swimming trip two weeks ago
Maybe a good chewing out would have sufficed, but I think jail was a little too much

I think that 2nd degree felony is bad, but she is obviously a pretty neglegent mother. That child could have severe repercussions from this. Skin cancer is highly (and I mean HIGHLY) correlated to sun burns before the age of 6 years old. There is no difference in her committing this neglegent act and leaving children in a hot car to overheat.

If you read the story again, you'll notice that the hospital personnel down-graded the kid's sunburn from second to first degree.
And then, the Sheriff defends his Dept.'s actions by saying "Well, she's been in this kinda trouble before" (Not actual quotes)
Not meaning to defend her carelessness, but it sure looks to me like somebody is after this woman. |

A spokesperson for Trinity Medical Center West, where the three children were treated with cold compresses, said the burns weren't that bad.

yup looks like system abuse, happens all the time. Has happened to me Make the wrong person mad, and two days later social workers at the door to make sure the kids have clothers, beds, food. It's a stupid way to get revenge, but it is effective.
We take good care of our kids, and they found nothing wrong, but it still makes ya look over your shoulder for a long time
