My son bought his first car!
My son, Jeff, right after buying his 1993 Mercury Sable! (His choice, BTW. All I said was that it has to be a Ford product.)
Fully loaded luxury sedan. Power everything & leather interior. Surprised the heck out of me that he'd want one, I was expecting him to push for a Mustang...but he fell for this one. Car's nice, no damage & everything works but the a/c. High miler. The old man worked him a great deal with the lot - would you believe $800!!
HE paid, he's been saving.
Oh yeah - Jeff's 18 & still doesn't have a driver's license, just a permit. Hasn't really been too interested, plus he's had it stuck in his head that he'll only drive a CAR - makes it tough to practice in a family that only owns TRUCKS! (Guess he finds this beast a tad intimidating!)
So he's got his car - that he can't drive! Don't worry, I've got the keys! |

$800? good deal! Also, he bought him himself... that means alot. I just bought my first car 4 months ago, paid for it all by myself... it's a great feeling |

Awesome! I drive a similar car (1990 model). Tell him to take care of the paint, these seem to be notorious for having paint problems. Seems that the outter paint coating flakes off if it is not taken care of. Mine has begun to do that. I got a similar deal on the price b/c it was from one of my best friends in college. Very cool. Congrats on the first car and nice truck!

I thought it important that he pay for it - helps develop independence, IMO. Plus, this way it's really his, hopefully he'll respect it & take care of it.
And yeah, from the look on his face, it felt pretty darn good!!
Dave, he's waxed it twice already!!
Cruez - I've worked at a Ford dealership (in parts) all my life. Kinda got a few connections...
Honestly, I did tell him he could get a different brand - but if he wanted Dad's prices, & Dad's mechanic buddies, etc, etc...
hehehe...

Nice car. I have a 93 Taurus of the same color. I have had the same paint problem as Dave. I have even painted it once. still the same. I take care of it to. Really frustrating.

Those cars are good for 200,000 miles before any major job.
