Kids any machinists out there??

i m looking for some sort of chart that lists drill sizes(in fractions, not numerical drill sizes)that coincide with the proper tap sizes. for example,a 10-24 tap would need ? size drill bit??

just need it up to maybe a half inch.

i have no idea where to even start a search for something like that.

thanks,eh??

brad

I doubt that you will find a chart that list the drill sizes in fractions only. The reason being that wire sizes are more closely "stepped" than fractional sizes.
I do seem to remember seeing a chart once that listed the common tap sizes, wire drill size and the nearest fractional size. Just remember that you probably won't get full thread strength. Fractional size tends to be "slightly" larger hole = less thread depth.

Your best local source would be a tool supply house or machinist supply. Not the local lumber yard. Think wholesaler.
I'll check with a couple of the local suppliers tommorrow. (I have to take a drill in for a repair estimate anyway)
I'll let you know what I find.

Good find thekingofpain.

That is all you will need draboo. The only thing it does not have on that chart are the NPT tap drill sizes.
