a split in the oppinions about Iraq and it's future is never good during any war, remember Vietnam?
I couln't agree with you more. If you think about it, all of the wars which have been fought with the "consent" of the majority of the American public have had favorable (in the loosest meaning of the word which can be used in connection with war) outcome while those that were fought without had "less-than-favorable" outcomes. Public support for any military offensive is absolutely necessary. Thus my statement "Control of the media and the ultra-liberal left aside, of course."

That is what I was referring to.
Sorry Epidemic...it got me so fired up that I didn't even read the rest of your post (i.e. "this time"). I have got to stop doing that.

We'll be in a situation where either many of their civilians or many of our troops woud be at great risk. If we are to go in there, it definitely won't be a popular "conflict".

The spiteful side of me says to hell with the civialians...send in the bombers. Their cowardly "leader" put them at risk himself. They should realize what he's doing and oust him themselves. But, I suspect they'll remain his human shields......which is sick.

The other side of me says that we should accept the risks and put our ground troops down and smoke them out. This would minimize "collateral damage", but would result in the deaths of Americans.

I guess it depends on whether or not our gov't really wants to put its money where its mouth is.....but it ain't going to be popular either way. I'm afraid it's time to put-up or shut-up, but unlike our last war with Iraq, this one won't be as neat.

This will be the true test of the American people's resolve to do away with these people once and for all, and I'm curious to see if it's as strong now as it was 11 months ago.
