The right choice?

Ok, I hope someone can help me. I am currently a HS senior and need to apply to colleges and such. I love working with hardware components, I can work with software. Now, I was thinking about majoring in ECE (Electronical and Computer Engineering). I need someone to explain to me if I'm making the right choice, especially someone with that degree. As I stated above, hardware is my favorite, so should I be enjoying the work that ECE provides? What does ECE allow me to do? As in, after I finish ECE, do I know how to build my own motherboard, or a chip, etc. After 5 or 6 years, do I just get my Bachelors in ECE? Is that enough to make good money, between 70k and 120k? Where can I work after getting a degree in ECE?
Those are very important questions that I need answers to before I file applications. Thanks

Bump for an enthusiastic student!! Sorry I can't offer any advice-no knowledge at all in this area. All I can say is do whatever you like - that way you'll never work all your life!!

Hmm...I believe there's only one person who can answer that question.

You get 1 guess!

Why don't you contact a few colleges and speak to professors who actually teach those kinds of classes? I'm sure they'll be more than happy to share their experiences with you...but no amount of information you can possibly gather about ECE will dictate whether or not you will like it. Remember, enjoying your job is well worth it's weight in $$$ IMO. I would rather drive a Pinto (I actually like them) to a job that I love than drive a Ferarri to a job that I hate.

yah I agree. I just don't know what ECE is about. and I cannot figure it out from any web sites I found. I guess that I'll actually have to call the college and schedule an appointment with some prof. thanks
