Baseball sets strike date
"NEW YORK (AP) -- Baseball players set a strike date for Aug. 30, a senior member of the union's executive board said Friday, putting the sport on course for its ninth work stoppage since 1972." Qoute from the New York Times Article.
THe people should boycott baseball.Since the last strike I have not attended a major league game and porbalbly will not attend one in the future. Cnn |

I hear you, brother! I have refused to patronize baseball in any way since that strike...and now, AGAIN!
Screw you AHOLES, I never did like the sport that much anyway.
Now, football better not tick me off, because I don't think I could stay mad at that sport!
Alex Rodruiguez makes over $21million for playing baseball! Wow, I'm so in the wrong business.
Just another show of greed...all of which I'm tired of seeing
[and it's both sides being ultra greedy, which is why they are so "far apart"]

The NFL has been able to develop revenue-sharing in such a way that small market teams can be competitive. Baseball generally goes to the highest bidder...i.e. the Yankees and the Braves. This will be the 9th strike in 30 years. Sheeesh!!
I'm just glad they waited until the football got rolling again...
Screw 'em. |

If everyone strikes baseball the players have no money to argue over?

It's funny that less than a year ago, all ballgames were put on hold for our national "mourning period". Then the ball-players returned to the field and held their heads up high, some even crying during the national anthem.
I guess we're already back to business as usual. : /

I would like for this to be the end of major league baseball. I'm sick of this crap. I just hope it ticks off enough people that nobody wants to go see a bunch of greedy, cry baby, whining losers.
I used to love baseball. I played baseball 12 years while growing up, but I can't stand the major league mentality.
Whatever happened to playing the game because you love it.

Just a quick clarification. What is driving some teams out of business is the fact that virtually all their income is local, unlike all other sports where the income is shared between the rich and the poor. The majority of owners want to share more income, i.e. be more like other sports, but the players (i.e. rich players) are worried that they won't be able to get as many quarter billion dollar salaries that way. And you'll notice who's negotiating for the players, Tom Glavine of the filthy rich Braves.
The best thing for baseball is for this strike to go ahead. That will put 6-8 teams on the verge of bankruptcy. The fun part is you'll see a few "big league" players working at your local Walmart.

I say it again! (I just can't help myself) Good riddens you filthy greedy swines! What I would give for just 100K salary...sheesh. And isn't the lowest salary in pro BB 200K??? Aw, you have to be away from your family and travel on the road too much? My brother is a truck driver with a family, and he doesn't make anywhere near that, and puts in a lot more hours. I just can't think of any arguments that justify such pay for such a job. At least in football they're trading in many years of physical health in for the cash...that sport can really tear up a body (though, some manage to keep in good shape through the end). And before somone says it, NO, baseball comes nowhere near the physical strain of football. I'm still mad...grrrrrrrrrr. Lets throw them into a football game, eh? Maybe that'll teach em!

The players union is obviously headed by a bunch of morons. They practically killed the sport with the last strike. This one will kill the sport, if we're lucky. Good riddance I say.
