May be away for a loooong time.
I am almost positive I am about to accept a contract job for 3 months. I am not sure what city I am going to, but I get to see my wife and kids maybe one to two days a month. The pay is going to be good, the people already doing this are averaging 12-15 hour days 6-7 days per weeks so it is about 1500.00 USD per week gross. Basically we setup a network, load the OS and software, admin it, then tear it down when were done. Hotel, travel and meals are paid for. Appearently I will be visiting different sites in the US.
If I accept, I fly out next Friday.
The travel and flying doesn't make me nervous, but being away from my family really sucks.
But the money and experience will be good.
And of course I will miss you folks, if I don't have access to the Internet. I may sneak into a library one and a while.

Who knows, chances are probably pretty good you maybe able to stop in a city where one of us resides

Well, good luck fatal. Sounds like a kinda cool job, but being away from the family will be hard.
A few years ago when I moved to the city to work, the family stayed in the country at first. I commuted 500k's every weekend. Was kinda tough for a while. But eventually after four months they moved down with me. I'm not so tired these days!
Let us know how you fare when you can.
Cheers
Mick

Depends on how long it will be for...
My dad did something similar when I was a kid... He commuted every two weeks...1800 miles to New Jersey....
He didn't want to move the family again since we just built a house. He ended up doing it for 10 years...
Sad to say but I don't think we have the Father/son connection that we should...
Something to think about when you think of long term effects...

Well, I accepted the position. I have training all day Thursday, a half day Friday, then I fly out Friday afternoon to parts unknown (as of yet).
Hopefully, I will have Internet access.

From the subject line, it sounded as if you were expecting to be the slammer for a while.

Hmmm, got my first assignment...two weeks in Peoria, IL. Anybody know anything about the area?
I was hoping for St. Croix or Maui. At least I didn't get the Juno, Alaska assignment.
