I use to have this reoccurring nightmare:
I would be sleeping (in the dream) dreaming of a happy place, when suddenly I would awake to a terrible noise from about the house. Yielding to my curiosity, I would stumble downstairs for an investigation of the disturbance. As soon as I set foot on the lower level, sheer terror would strike me, as I noticed creatures marching around the premises. The fright was so intense, that my shivering initially convinced me that there was a fierce vibration occurring all throughout the house. As my sight adjusted, my ears would focus to their horrific sounds, much like that of some sort of monstrous machine coming to a halt. [in fact, if you've ever rode the Highland Fling, it was identical to the noise it makes when shutting down, which I discovered a couple years AFTER the dream stopped] Being froze by the terror, the creatures would slowly invade the house. I was then surrounded by them in a mortifying display of aggression. And I would always wake up nearly jumping out of bed...and on a rare occasion, would actually jump OUT of bed and land quite abruptly on the floor.
This dream would occur about twice a month for several years. I sure was glad when it stopped. Though it was so terrifying, that I still remember it as if it really happened. It was from about age 9-12.
