New Rant !!

With this current UK situation, 2 young girls going missing, apparently they were online just before they disappeared!

How the Fcuk ( brand name ) do we clean up the Internet!

I mean, come on guys, Adults posing as kids, ( they suspect) but we hear it happens. As responsible users of Technology, we all have a moral duty to stop this kind of stuff. I don't know how, but I don't know everything! Self regulating Forums/chatrooms ? What!

How does one stop Adults posing as kids in Chatrooms?
It can't be that hard, surely ?
As a parent, I'm concerned.

If someone did that to either of my kidz I'd go insane!

What next?

When it comes to protecting my kidz, I'll do anything!

While I can certainly understand the anger and frustration at the thought of such a thing happening, I can't imagine anything short of more laws requiring, say, a compulsory video camera embedded into the screen, to show just WHO you're talking to. Not a very good idea.

Evil finds a way with anything...cars, radio, even cans of whipped cream! It's just life. Best thing to do is EDUCATE the kids, and don't create an atmosphere where they feel they have to "go behind your back" to do whatever they're gonna do anyway. IMO, of course.

I agree with Knothead. The problem is not the technology, nor the communication medium, it's bad people.

They will always find a way to misuse anything. So we need to remain vigilant; out best defence I agree is educating our children of the dangers, and providing osme sort of responsible monitoring of their activities. Not Nazi-style or anything; just make sure our kids know what the potential dangers are, and to have an attitude of trust with us so that they will consult us if they are unsure, or if they want to do something different.

My opinion, for what it's worth.

Cheers
Mick

I agree with the above, our biggest weapon against it is education and the parents regulating what their kids are doing on the computer not more laws. What's to say kids aren't watching something 'adult' on tv if the parents arent' watching? If nobody pays attention to a kid they will do something to GET some sort of attention. Its theparents duty to monitor their own kids not the gov'ts. Gov't was not created to monitor every kids every movement.
