It didn't count, you're not bleeding
We have a saying among the younger ones in the family, the ones that hang out in the garage, when you get hurt, if you're not bleeding it didn't count.
So I the wife,my son Mike, and the rest of the goof troop went swimming/fishing thursday. Just as we were getting ready to leave this car goes sideways on the bridge above us, then across the road hitting the guardrail, and flipping 360 degrees end for end, flying a distance of 120 yards, and finally landing in 4 foot of water right behind the boat dock. My brother in law, and another guy pulled the lady from the car which was nearly covered with water, and laid her on the shore. She had no apparent injuries, other than she was going into shock. The paramedics came, and took her to the hospital where she was treated and released.
Now in the middle of all this confusion, and the crowd of people, Mike was leaning on this boat trailer watching everything happen. After they loaded her into the ambulance, and drove off, he looked at me and said At least mine counted.

| Im trying to follow the logic of this. Are you saying that if you get hurt and are not bleeding it doesn't count????
How can that be logical? A person can be hurt and not bleed. such as broken bones and such.

Don't forget they were kids when they said it
An old roommate of mine, said he used to have a baseball coach that whenever they got hurt he simply said "Oh just rub some dirt on it, and get back in the game!" lol

Well that's part of the point, they are kids. So is this to say that if you don't bleed too darn bad.
Seems to be an illogical point to teach a child that saying.
Some dad: Im sorry son, its just a broken bone it don't count.
Son: but dad it really hurts.
some dad: Sorry son, it ain't bleeding, remember the moto. if it don't bleed it don't count.
Son thinking: This hurts way bad. This doesnt' make sense. maybe I ought to just nick myself a bit then it will count and just maybe i'll get the needed medical attention now.
some dad: chin up son, and go back and play.
Son thinking: geeeez i could really hate you easy.
I think empathy needs to be expressed to children when they are hurt but not so much for the little finger bangers other than "im sorry that hurt didn't it? Give it a kiss and go on about what you was doing before.
edit: age appoperate for the kiss on owie.

We had that same saying growing up, of course half the time when we really got hurt there was no blood just broken bones. When we were little if we came back in from outside NOT bleeding somewhere we werent having fun.

My son is too old to complain about getting hurt (14), but my daughter still loves to make a big scene. I just ask her, "Do you need to go to the hospital?" When she says, "No", I look her straight in the eye and say, "Then shut up!" That almost always gets a laugh out of her, then the whole thing is over. It's to the point where as soon as I ask her if she needs to go to the hospital, she starts laughing.

| Child? three days ago. my brother and I and my friend from childhood, still tell each other that, now my 15 year old son, who was in the accident 3 weeks ago, has picked it up, as well as my 9 year old nephew, and my 8 year old son.We are all more like friends than father and son, because me and my father never were that close. Neo it's kind of a redneck guy thing. When your in the garage, someone is going to mash a finger with a hammer,or bump thier head, or some thing, and always they yell ouch,
Are you bleeding
NO
it didn't count
of course if they are seriously hurt, they go to the hospital. Usually indicated by three hours of endless crying j/k
Anyway it was funny Mike making a joke about his accident.
I am glad he can joke about it, and I'm glad that the lady was alright. But the way he said it was funny
