Is there a GOD

I have pondered the existance of God for years. The engineer in me just keeps coming back to the same position.

The basic theories regarding gods comes back to watching history unfold. I feel if you take a group of children and isolate them and magically raise them to adult hood on a large body of land. There will be fears that need addressing starting with death, rain, thunder, sickness. These fears will spawn gods to explain them. Over time as they figure more and more about the world the thunder gods and moon will become understood. So those gods will die. Leaving one god to explain the wonders of the universe and the after life.

Another I have with the potential of a Gods existance is simply why did he make a creature that displeases himself. He could have simply given us solid unquestionable proof of his existance and told us to follow his rules personally. You still could have free will but at least you would be informed. Instead you have hundreds of religions, and no solid proof. Yea that is called faith. But faith is only as where your life has taken you. Millions of tribal people have performed human sacrifice lived and died with out ever seeing or hearing the word of god.

Evidence against monotheism
1) people make explainations for their fears
2) A perfect being made creatures that anger him by nature. Ya know eat apples and such.
3) Many religions damming people for ignorance.
4) Requiring faith rather than informed consent.
5) In the name of religion, Most human attrocities have occured. I would think god would not allow his name to be used that way.
6) Jobe. God allowed devil to torture Jobe on a kinda bet. God being all knowing and all seeing would have simply needed to tell the devil that he would not break and the devil would have believed him. Let alone that it is kinda a petty thing to do.
7) Kids whine tooo much.

Evidence for monotheism.
1) Faith in the words of others.
2) A convenient way to explain what we do not know.

I hope I am wrong and God is understanding. But most faiths say he would cook me for my disbelief. Even though I am basically a good person (perhaps uninformed in terms of faith) for the transgression of not believing for 80 years of life I will be dammed for an eternity. I have a problem with that concept it seems kinda petty and human in nature.

Yes, in your conscience. Not physically or in any mythical way. God exists only in your own mind and guides all your actions. Not to say you can blame God for your misdeeds.

That is one of the reasons I don't believe in praying ina public place with rituals. God is within you in your conscience so all you need to do to pray is to say your prayers (or whatever) to your own conscience.

1) people make explainations for their fears
Um... you lost me there...
2) A perfect being made creatures that anger him by nature. Ya know eat apples and such.
Creatures that have Free Will Not a dictatorship

3) Many religions damming people for ignorance.
Religions are creations of man attempting to create God's will, man is not perfect and some are down right rotten..

4) Requiring faith rather than informed consent.
Depends on your time-line... How often must we be told?

5) In the name of religion, Most human attrocities have occured. I would think god would not allow his name to be used that way.
YOu are leaving out Evil, Santan wanted to be as good as God, equal to him. Because of that, he was evicted, and sent from the sight of God. Methinks he must really hate him and the best he can do now is cheap immatations.. If Mankind chooses to go his route then people are hurt.. The ultimate way to break a parents heart is to hurt the children.

6) Jobe. God allowed devil to torture Jobe on a kinda bet. God being all knowing and all seeing would have simply needed to tell the devil that he would not break and the devil would have believed him. Let alone that it is kinda a petty thing to do.
God knew of what Jobe was made of.. and knew he could take it. Jobe has been remembered for thousands of years for his courage and faith... not a bad way to be remembered.

7) Kids whine tooo much.
Yea buddy! How do you think God feels (adults do too!)

Something I've always pondered: "What does an atheist yell during the height of sexual passion?"

(if you could bug their bedrooms, I bet you'd find out a lot of self-proclaimed atheists subconsciously believe in God.)

I did, a couple of years ago...I'd tell you, but it's kinda private. But I am living proof of God's graciousness and mercy.

I will say that sometimes it's hard to hold our faith, especially when we've been brought up to believe that God is supposed "This way" or "that way", and we think that, "well, those people that are starving and dying, how could a just and fair God allow such a thing?" or even, "Well, I'm a good person, why does God let THIS (whatever) happen to me?"

As I get older (and hopefully wiser,) I keep seeing the patterns of a Consciousness that, while I may not comprehend it, the creative flourishes are there. And when you just KNOW that we are spiritual beings, then you know also that there is no death. At least, not in any way that is truly eternal.

So, yeah, I just don't go around praying for myself, wishing to gain this or that. Don't feel like "tugging on the sleeves" of the Great Creator. I don't expect any cosmic favors. ( I will pray for others, oddly enough. )

I sort of laugh when I hear someone say, "Praise God, the escrow went though!" HAHAHA, as if God cares about your escrow! That's your job!

Conversely, I feel bad when someone blames God for their bad lot in life. That, too, is your job, and if you can just KNOW that should something REALLY horrible happen to you (not in a "this life" sense, but in a truly spirit crushing sense,) God will most certainly be there. I have seen this, and I have an absolute conviction of it.

Maybe he doesn't show up whenever you call...but he's always right on time.

I hope nobody finds offense in this, it's intended to be constructive and hopeful.
