Cyberspace: Real or Illusion???

Just read another really interesting article (I know, I read to much...).

This one concerns both the law and how it applies differently with the inclusion of the concept of "cyberspace".

It also discusses the possible fragmenting of the network that is "The Internet". Placing each nation/state as its own network, under its own laws, and interacting (or not) with other nation/states networks just as nations do otherwise.

Here's the link

Any thoughts on this would be welcome.

I'm reserving mine for now...

Hahahahaa, I sorta like this Bill Thompson guy...I think his conclusions are a little screwy, but I sure do like the way he RANTS!

The flaw I find in his reasoning is, the Internet is the WILDEST and most powerful medium of communication vehicle that's ever been....at this point in time, it's still free and fairly unfettered. Any idiot can put up a site and expostulate their viewpoint, and that's as it should be. That's the whole charm of the 'net.

If people don't like the cultural slant, well, cool, they can rant and rave to their heart's content, as Mr. Thompson has done. He seems to have a very strong anti-U.S. bias, he obviously hates our culture. Hey, I do too!

He does step on my feet a bit when he criticises our Constitution , though, but what the hey. The internet allows the discourse. Letta to yo' mama, Mr. T.

The internet regards political boundaries as much as weather does. You can't build the concept of a political boundary into technology, it's like building a spy satelite and telling it to ignore Canada. How would you do that? Sure, you could do it, but the satelite's usefullness won't exactly improve, especially if something goes wrong.

P.S. We all hate our culture! Or what's left of it....
