Newbie's recommended reading list for those that want to STICK IT! to the man!!!
I've been noticing a number of disturbing threads, articles, and reports lately. "M$ attempt to do this!" and "M$ attempts to do that!". "A new bill heading to congress will allow.....destroying freedoms....removing rights....monitoring...." People respond saying "thats BS! I wish I could do something about it!" or "I don't understand why? What does company X possibly stand to gain by supporting company Z, or the new __bill?"
Do you want to understand? I know I do. To beat the man, you must understand the man and his system. You've got to understand his motives, and the ways he attempts to trick you.
I've been doing some research lately and have come up with a number of good reads. Some I have read, some I havent. Basically, I just want this to become a continuing thread where people post books/articles they've read that opened their eyes. Please include works of fiction and non-fiction.
It may be a prophetic waring of what could be, or an expose what what currently is.
It may also be an easy-to-understand textbook of the basics of economics, governments, and markets.
I'd like to start with my list:
1. 1984
2. Brave New World
3. Farenheit 454
4. When Corporations Rule America
5. The best democracy money can buy
6. Capitalism and Freedom
Remember: THE ONLY WAY THE MAN WILL SUCCEED IN HIS EVIL ENDEAVORS IS IF THE PEOPLE ARE IGNORANT AND UNEDUCATED
Post your good reads too, as well as what you thought about them.

Many may disagree, but Animal Farm is actually a fantastic book on the subject. It's a take-off on the Russian Revolutions that lead to communism. Remember, this was written during the Stalin era, before Kurchev(sp) has come to office yet.
Other than that, Anthem is an excellent, if not short, read. Ayn Rand has a pro-capitolist group named after her, the highly-respected Ayn Rand Institute.
It's not really a matter of education, its a matter of propaganda. To get over 'the man', you have to look at the big picture, both sides of the story. You have to seriously consider them, no matter how ludicrous one side's arguments may be. If everyone would do this, there would be no need for special intrests.

Ayn Rand should be read by all. I also enjoy reading Larry Elder, O'Reilly and Orwell.

Well personally I see viewing anything as "the man" is just throwing a black blanket over everything that annoys you about gov't. Its also a bit immature IMO.
The government is not the bad guy, corporations are not the bad guys. Its specific pieces and parts of these groups that are bad. Society has gotten into a spell where we 'trust' the corporations and governments to kind of take care of themselves and now we're getting slapped in the face with it. Society has to get off their lazy butt (including myself ) and educate themselves as to what they can do about it. And educating just yourself just isn't enough you have to make sure others know the FACTS!! Not more propogranda.. everyday in TV/News/Magazines we're inundated with advertisements from companies and groups that have their own agendas and tell you what you WANT to hear ... and while it maybe the truth they often times are not telling the end reader ALL of the facts.. the good side AND the bad side...
Personally I think line item veto would be a great thing but then all of these crooked congress people couldn't slide in their pay raises every year so it'll never get voted in

Have you considered the possibility the the Government and Microsoft are teaming up? What then? Who'll be in charge? Just what percentage of the computing world uses MS software?
