Rumors wanted: why did the USA stop the gulf war when it did?

why didnt we continue all the way to Bagdad?
why do we talk alot about Saddam now, but not take
any concrete action?
it seems we arent even preparing to take any action soon,
are we?
I really think there is an untold story of why we stopped the last time. Any rumors as to why?

united nations = the global community. (at least it should 'equal' that, a handful of vetos render it somewhat useless).

It would be difficult to set up a new democratic government to replace the dictatorship now in place in Iraq. You do realize that we would be responsible to completely restructure Iraq if we went in and destroyed everything of the old government an Saddam Hussein.

I hear Saddams brother is a real piece of work .... one of the ones that actually enjoys doing the dirty deeds Saddam orders done. How about we remove Saddam and place him in power instead ?

I always thought we stopped after that massacre on the highway - you know, Saddam's army was retreating.. and we just decimated them.. they had no hope - and the press got there - and the pictures of the aftermath were all over the TV.

I think the decision was made then - cause we had driven Iraq out of Kuwait - our objective had been met -

The reason we stopped short of Baghdad is Saudi Arabia. They did not want us to remove Hussein. They just wanted him out of Kuwait.

Bush (Sr.) forgot all about what the Nipponese did to our soldiers in WW2 and was to end and give the impression the US was fair and just instead of just leveling Saddam and his cohorts. Just like whimpy Carter did when he should have sent in the Marines in Iran and made fools out of us. Wonder why 9/11 happened???? We need a mlitary man in the White house. John McCain for president. Try to envision the presidency from an ex-POW point of view....if you know what I mean!!!!!!! Take names and kick A$$!!

The fact is Saddam Hussein keeps Iran in check. They both keep Syria in check. Instead of us fighting them all, let them stare at each other.
