When I was a teenager, I had the obnoxious habit of answering the phone by saying, "SPEAK!"

Now that I'm an adult, of course, I am much more refined.

Now I say, "ahem. Speak."

when I was a kid, a friend called my mom, told her he was with at&t, and they were working on the phonelines in the area, and that she needed to lay the phone in the sink coverered with a towel so that when they blew the dust out of the lines it wouldn't go all over the house.
Then he drove over, and just roll laughing at the towel covered sink. Mom about killed him

That's happened alot. Some guys told a secretary that he was with Bell (whatever region) and that they were cleaning out the phone lines with hot steam. The secretary yelled for everyone to throw down the phones, ran up to her supervisor, and knocked the phone out of her hand.

Say something like this with a very monotonous and slow voice:

"Hi, you have reached a live voice. At the sound of the tone, please talk to me. Beep!"

I once had a friend who replied, "This is a machine talking to you!"

When I would call my friend, he would answer with "Hello". So naturally you would say "Hi how you doing, I was just..." That's about the point when the answering machine would finish it's message!

Let's see, as a teenager I answered the phone --

"Paradise, God speaking"

"Devil speaking, who in He** do you want?"

Then one day, I answered with the first one and it was Pastor wanting to talk to my mother. (He wasn't happy! ) The next day when the phone rang, I answered it with the second one and it was Pastor again. He said we needed to talk in his office. I haven't used them since!

I usually just answer the phone with "Yo" or "Ja", but sometimes, "Speak".

Harder
