Bark Collar -Do they work?

We have a good little West Highland Terrier , lovable etc but he barks a lot , to the point where it is starting to get on my nerves and I won't even guess what the neighbors say. I want to get a humane bark control collar , this one emits sound not a shock. Does anyone know if they work? Here is a link to one I found.

For $30.00 it is reasonable to try. If you try it let us know how you did.

I'd trade him in for a non-barking equally lovable sausage dog. Assuming you aren't too much attached to him yet. If you are, my sympathies because nothing will stop the barking.

You are joking right? Dachshunds are one of the more protective (i.e. barking) dogs. All of my vienna sausage dogs barked to protect me from everything... my neighbors, my car, my doorbell, my tv, and a slew of things I cannot hear.

Had a coworker try the shock thing, but his dog got used to it. Tried a citronella(sp?) collar and that seemed to work a little better. This collar sprays citronella so the dog gets a nose full of it.

~~EDIT darn spelling

Not sure about sound but I know shock collars work. My Dad used to wake me up with one. Of course he always had it set to the maximum level..........................ouch!

I meant they (Sausage Dogs) don't bark incessantly like some types of poodles and hyperactive varieties.

BTW, Banti, Vienna Sausage.

I'm with Banti, at my bosses house (I'm a PA) he has the electric collar device as a perimeter block, you know small wire around property. Well, the one dog (3 yr rotty) just stands there, fully over the wire, you can see the collar working (sm led flashes) but I guess he is now used to it. I tried it once, ONCE, gave me a nice shock and numbed my arm for an hour.

My friend has the same dog with the same problem---luckly he lives on a 600 acre mountaintop so no neighbors to bother---darn dog will bark if a leaf moves on a tree or a fly wizzes by...
