draboo is nominated!!

yep,i did it again. this is the second time, dammit. i nominated my self for the" thats what happens when you dont wear eye protection while using power tools, you freakin` doo-doo brain!!" award. please everyone,DO NOT HESITATE to ream moi for doing this.

while cutting a 4x8 sheet of treated lattice work, the circular saw caught one of the brads or staples or whatever they are and thru it up,it careened of my beak and whapped me in the corner of my eye.

i ve been fortunate before, but this is the closest i ve come to losiing an eye.

it hit me on the lower eyelid. up a quarter inch it woulda been lights out. it even cut my nose and the eye lid

i ve been doing this type of work since 1972,ya think i d know better.

safety glasses galore in the truck.

anyway,i sure hope someone learns from my mistake. i almost learned to late

a wiser brad.

I've learned to always wear safety glasses.. Even though I never get anything tossed at me, but sure enough - whenever I'm not wearing them, crap flies in my eyes.

For me it was weed wacking in the woods. You know that bamboo like stuff. Well ya see the weed wacker whips around really quickly and stuff flies everywhere.

When all of a sudden I felt a pain similar to the pain only men know about. It radiated through out my skull. Stuck 50 feet in the woods and another 50 to the house just to the left of my pond pictured in the gallery. Temporarily blind with both hads covered in filthy work gloves what was poor epidemic to do.

with a sharp jerk of my arms I threw off the gloves and carefully raised my hand up in a kinda brushing movement I struck a piece of bamboo protruding from my eye. Ever so carefully I gave a gentle tug when I felt the edge of my iris pull with it.

When I plucked it out it hurt almost as much as putting it in. Yeeeeoooooowwwww!!!

After walking the hundred or so feet back to the house form memory the pain started to ebb and I was able to open one eye.

All turned out ok. And I had fun grosing the people in the office out with the blood filled white of my eye.

Hope all is well with you.

Can we have a big old "YEA YEA I HATE WHEN I DO THAT"

I caught a racketball in my eye socket once... that was the closest I ever came to losing an eye. I wear eye protection all day where I work in a laundry detergent research and development laboratory... nothing stings quite like laundry detergent puffing into the old eye.

Hehe the first two responses come from people with eyes for avatars!

I used to wear contact lenses, then had to wear safety glasses over them at work. It just didn't make sense. Now I wear my prescription safety glasses all the time. Unfortunately it only protects my eyes...

I did something similar.....

Chipping off the flux resin with a hammer from of a weld that I had completed....took off the glasses and a nice, hot piece smacked me in the eye... I was lucky...

Looks like you lucked out also....

Ya know...most of those accidents aren't a big deal when you don't have to share with everybody you meet... but when you are carrying the evidence with you in a very visable manner everyone asks....
