Help Control Noise In My Stereo

I have an older reciever, but lately when I turn the volume knob, it makes a scratchy sound. Anyone know how to fix this annoying problem? It sounds good, just leace the volume alone

Go to Radio Shack, or some place similar, and get some electrical contact cleaner. Something along these lines.

Unplug the equipment, give it a good cleaning, and use that solvent in and around the volume pot (all the pots actually). That should help tremendously if not completely fix it.

If the above doesn't work, it should, you might have to replace volume control.
It's not hard to replace, but good luck trying to find a new one that matches the old one(knob). Parts for these aren't easy to come by.
I lucked out and had an older Pioneer that used a similar part.

Do what I do with my dau's stereo when it plays scratchy sounds (she says it's music, but I think not! )

Pull the plug out at the socket. Causes the most beautiful sound of all - silence!

until she wails "Dad! That's my fav song!!"

Sorry I'm not an audiophile. Can't help, just remarkin'.

Cheers
