U.S. to Give $1.5 Billion Loan to Uruguay
New York Times
"The Bush administration announced Sunday it was providing an emergency $1.5 billion loan to Uruguay to help stabilize the small South American nation rocked by financial troubles in the region."
THis money should be given to people at home. There are unemployed and homeless people her in the US.

I love the way the call them "loan"s
Here's some money, you just pay us back "whenever", if-ever being more appropriate.
What I could do with $1.5billion...oh, I doubt they'd approve of that one!

The story is changing,
"The Bush administration, softening its stance against financial help for struggling countries, said today that it would grant up to $1.5 billion in short-term loans to Uruguay, an infusion that should allow its banks to reopen Monday morning.

If we give the money, we are neglecting our people at home and the people in our government are farsighted morons who can't do anything right.
If we don't give the money, America is a bunch of greedy, insensitive bastards.
We can't win |

I'm so sick of hearing about the US giving $$$ away to other countries that will NEVER pay us back. Heck, half of the money that we loan is probably used against us in one way or another. I totally agree with you guys on this, that money should be staying in OUR country! #$#%##%@!!!! Man this ticks me off...especially as a military member...we've got the best fighting force this world has ever seen, but we can't keep up with civilian raises because "we just don't have the money". BS!!!!! Mexico has the money, Iran has the money, Kuwait has the money, Uruquay has the money, etc.
It's just like when we "police" the world...damned when we do, damned when we don't. *sigh*

We have enough domestic welfare as it is. We are not a socialist country. We are a capitalist country built on small government. We have Medicaid for the sick and plenty of shelters for the homeless already. Those who choose not to use the shelters or are not allowed in are typically drug/alcohol abusers . And hey, they made their choice, so we cannot save them from themselves.
I do not completely understand the usefulness of Uruguay to our foreign policy, so I do not know if it is a good call or not. I do not trust anything the liberal NY Times says regarding the issue since they are so liberal in bias.
Our past policy has surrounded trying to stabilize the SA and LA (South Amer & Latin Amer) countries so they would not turn away from Democracy. These countries used to flip flop very frequently between tyrranical regimes (when the economy was bad) to democracies (when the economy got better). These countries stabilized a bit during the Reagan years and the threat of Communism moving into these countries decreased drastically when Reagan beat the former Soviet Union in the arms race (ending the Cold War). (Remember that in the 80's we were assured to have Communist countries covering more than 1/2 of the globe, including SA and LA.) We tend to support these countries to decrease the chances of tyrranical rulers overthrowing democracy again. This cuts down on crime, military threats, corruption, suffering of the population, and drugs moving from the now-destabilized nation to the US.
Instead of just bashing the ideas and assuming the (insert liberal rag like CNN, NY Times, USA Today, MSNBC here ), I invite people to learn more about a situation instead of reacting like these liberal rags want you too...with emotion, not with logic.
Don't let them win! Research and find out why by learning from both sides, not just liberal or just conservative!
Dave
