Most drugs people take, legally or illegally, have some basis in medicine. Morphine was originally developed to be an effective non addictive pain killer and to combat opium addiction. It was thought that injecting the opiate directly into the blood stream would prevent addiction.

I have a prescription for diabetes and cholestrol control. My cholestrol is only a bit high. If my body was normal, the doctor wouldn't pay too much attention to it. But because of my diabetes, I have a higher chance for heart attack.

I take OTC for hayfever.

Accupril for benign hypertension.
Prevacid for acid reflux disease...but that's just this month.Because of my health insurance which will only pay for two months worth of Prilosec,my ARD medicine keeps changing.Ive been on Prilosec,Nexium,Zantac and now Prevacid.
They told me by the end of the year Prilosec will be generic and sold over-the-counter.I hope.

I'm a geezer, too:

Atenolol (high blood pressure/beta blocker)
Prilosec (acid reflux/stomach ulcer)
Lipitor (anticholestemic)

The second and third are HUGE moneymakers for the drug companies. The Prilosec patent has expired, but Merck has blocked the makers of generic equivalents by filing automatic 30-month objections.
