Kids What do baby turtles eat??

My sister in law brought me a baby turtle that one of her boyfriends gave her. I think it is a painted turtle and it's not much bigger than my thumb(about 1 inch front to back across it's shell)
Does anybody know what to feed these things?

Turtles eat bugs & veggies. That's what I always fed mine.

They don't seem to thrive in my captivity, however. OTOH, they were all old when I got them.

One escaped, and one died under the bed. (PHEW!)

Return it to the wild - it does not thrive in the care of humans as well as it could in it's natural habitat.

My next-door neighbor has a pair of turtles, boy, they are CUTE!! They recognise people, and are happy to come out and visit. She fed them FLOWERS. Go figure.

But these are large desert turtles, so...like TKOP said, ID 'em, (Martoch's link is a helpful one ) .....and if I may add...I would think that the ENVIRONMENT would be the make-or-break consideration.

Good luck, MD.

If you have a exotic reptiles pet store close by, take them in and see what they say on what they are and how to care for them. Good luck and take care of the little guy (or gal).
