New & improved TechIMO sidebar!

For those of you that may be using the sidebar I created a short time ago,
you might want to freshen it up by following the simple directions below. As you
can see, it's basically the same but now we have a new drop-down menu for
an instant forum jump. And it's all thanks to our friend ^hyd^
who did 99.9% of the work in figuring out how to make the darn thing work
correctly. (You can witness the fun it was working on this by checking out
this thread.)

Here's a shot of IE and Mozilla with their sidebars side-by-side, so to speak.
You can see the Mozilla one is a bit more compact. [shrug] what can ya do?
Note that all the forums, plus a few other areas, are now accessible via
the new pull-down menu. Also notice the cool new-fangled design Google search.

And the menu in action:

- Directions for updating:

Those of you with Mozilla click here if you don't already have the sidebar.
If you do already have it, then just right-click on your bar and choose "reload". (If that
doesn't work, then clear out your cache and then reload it.)

Those of you with IE should download this reg file (right-click, then "save target as...")
then double-click on it, then restart IE. You should do this even if you already have the sidebar,
because now the Mozilla sidebar and the IE sidebar are two slightly different animals.
Same links contained in each one, just slightly different code for the different browsers.

I'm not sure which one will be most appropriate for Opera...I guess I'll leave that up to
samwichse. (Since he took on the responsibility last time to port the sidebar to
Opera, now he's stuck with the job. )

---
reference:
Mozilla users. Want a TechIMO custom sidebar?
IE users, don't be shown up by those cool Mozilla users (your own TechIMO sidebar!)
Opera users! want a cool TechIMO sidebar?

You mean the cool buttons and stuff? That's just an alternate skin for Mozilla. There's about a dozen or more different ones around. The one you see in my screenshot is called Orbit 3+1. You can find it and quite a few other here.

I suggest just going through all their skins and do install for all the ones you may want. They don't show up immediately because you got to restart the browser. But if you go through and install a number of them, you can then choose "view" from your menu and go down to "apply themes" and you'll have a list of all that you installed.

GZ - Mozilla has themes you can clean it up with

OuT - The drop down box keeps giving me Invalid forum specified in Opera

Opera users - two ways to do it
1. Edit the current tab - Right click current tab and click on "Edit Panel...". Change the URL to the url listed below
2. Make a new panel - right click any tab in the hotlist and click "New Panel...". Give it a display name and put in the URL listed below...

Umm and is that google image supposed to be underneath the search bar like that?
I like the update though
Was wondering if there was a way to put in # of PM's that you have in that hot bar but I dont believe so because that page only gets refreshed when you open the browser... but it would be a function lol
However, that would require putting in a refresh meta tag and have it update every so often.. my home cable connection SUCKS.. so probably wouldnt' be a great idea for all of us lol

Uh,...yeah. It's like modern art or something.

lol. But if it was a mistake do you think I'd be plastering screenshots up for everyone to see?

For the Opera bar, why not try using the Mozilla version and not the IE version? That's probably why the menu thing is not working for ya. The code for the Mozilla version is here:

Let me know.

Ok I was wondering about the google thing considering its also in your screenshot.. part of my problem was the google image got lopped off at the bottom lol
Anyways.. still no luck
I did change the URL in my thread above to show the correct one though.
Sorry 'bout that!
Anybody know any quirks with opera dropdown box links?
Doesn't look like its getting the option # into the forum id correctly ...
Here is the URL I got for the sports gaming forum
http://www.techimo.com/forum/forumdi...=1000&forumid=

maybe we can get krohnjw over here, I know he's around here somewhere I know he uses opera

Very cool. The Google bar did not work int he previous version, but this one does now. I like the menu.

Nice improvements!

hello... very strange, it was working perfectly for me in Opera last night... though it was pretty late, maybe I was just seeing things...

anyways, I think I got it figured! appears that Opera didn't like the '&' in the javascript(me thinks...), so I had to find the url-encoded version of '&' (which btw is %26 in case you ever wanted to know...)
Out, check the thread, I'll post the fix and such very shortly...

ciao all!!
