What's up...I am back!
Well, sort of. We haven't moved into the new house yet, so my computer isn't set up. I was so desperate to get back online, I am using my sister-in-law's AOL account (I feel so dirty).
Well, I am an official Minnesotan. 36 hours of driving.
Highlights...roadkill in Oklahoma I had never seen before. Saw a smushed possum and armadillo. I thought I saw Wart's avatar for another roadkill, but it turned out to be just further decomposed.
Lowpoint...gas station bathrooms. Living in Phoenix, maybe I am used to a certain level of hygene, but I am certain that the fly strips in some of those bathrooms were designed to merely prevent flies from escaping the unimaginable filth.
Our final signing is the 1st. The house is a split level with a great room, kitchen and eating area on the primary level, three bedrooms above and an unfinished basement below. We have a beautiful view that should give us plenty of warning when the tornado comes. I have to admit, I feel pretty confident about tornados though. I've seen Twister. Also, I am not a woman in a trailer in a moomoo with curlers in my hair (those are the only people who get hit by tornados). 1st day here, I had my first severe storm and tornado watch. My brother-in-law seemed unfazed and said just listen for the siren. I feel so much better.
On a better note, I lost 10 pounds when a mosquito latched onto me. I have heard the Red Cross is foregoing asking for blood donations and has taken to just capturing and milking the mosquitos. I am thinking of taking up fencing just to battle the beasts.
I also thought of getting one of those blue-light bug zappers, but it seems I am going to need one the equivalent of a tesla coil to be effective.
So, other than the tornados and the mosquitos, I am really enjoying the humidity. I now truly understand and appreciate what "a dry heat" is. My new hobby is to watch mold actively grow on my clothes. I have been able to cultivate 2 or 3 different types.
Well, I had better end this before I get disconnected from AOL.
"Goodbye"...DARN!

GREAT to have you back FX! Sounds like you're very happy with the move...congrats on that!!! Moving can sure be stressful, but you seem to be doing just fine...good for you & your family.
...LOL on your AOL comments! I'm an ex-user...I never really hated it, but I never really liked it either.
Anyway, welcome home!
Mike

Better change your location, fatal, or people will think you're in Arizona!
Welome back, mate, glad to hear some else has mozzies that need swords to keep 'em at bay. Our Red Cross set mozzie traps on the windersills to get extra blood. They can get a couple of pints in an hour on a good day.
Cheers
Mick

Hey FX, where abouts in 'sota?
Since ya' mentioned tornado's, southern part I'd guess!
"Skeeters" bad???? Ya' ain't seen nothing till ya' travel up around Lake of the Woods. (Caddman can tell better stories about up there than me! Since he's older and more experienced! )
Well, yer' in the 4th season right now! Next comes "Early Winter" then "Real Winter" and finally, "Late Winter"! The bright news is that the coldest I remember S. MN getting was only around -40 and the wind chill was around -100. (Kinda' warm, wouldn't ya' say Cadd?) Make sure to go up N. in Jan/Feb, so you can see what real cold is!

(Born, raised, and lived in N. Minnesota!) Then got smart and left!!!! |

Look it up on the map and see if you can find --
Baudette -- Cadd's old stomping grounds!
Warroad -- My old stomping grounds! Can we say, "Northern" as in kissin' Canada!
