Guitarists: Advice needed
Has anyone had any experience with line6's POD , is it any good? , a worthwhile investment?
Main reason of asking, is that it's considrably cheaper than the flextone or vetta range. and the mesaboogie duel rectiier + '63 vox amp models |

Sorry I don't have any experience with it, but it does look pretty sweet. What's the best price you've found on it?

Sorry Gibbo, no luck here either, but it does look like a cool toy. I usually just use the controls on my Fender amp, and my Heavy Metal Humbucker, Straight line to the PA
Works for me. If you buy it I'll try it out for ya though

Yes! I used the POD (First Version) for some overdubs when we recorded our CD. Plugged straight into the mixer - great sound.
I have no experience putting it through an amp and speaker cabinet tho.
If you can, get the rackversion(POD Pro). Sure it's bigger and heavier and costs more, but it's advantages as a live preamp are better. For studio only, get the little bean shaped one.
I use a Rocktron Chameleon as a preamp and i've never been a happier guitarist! |

The PODs are amazing. If you can though, I would suggest you save up for the rack mount studio/live POD. It has more features, plus you can use your computer to download new sounds, save existing sounds to the hard drive of your computer, and upload the new sounds into it. You may be able to do that with the floor POD too, I'm not sure.
My roommate picked up the studio POD and a Carvin 150 Watt studio reference amp, and just bought a Carving 400 Watt 4x12 cabinet. It sounds unbelievable. The Dual Rectifier amplifier is almost dead on to the Marshall amps. The Fuzz Face is really good too. And the Line 6 clean is about the best clean sound from an amp I've heard in a long time.
Of course, your guitar is going to affect how it sounds too. My Telecaster sounds nothing like his SG, and his SG sounds nothing like his ESP, even though the SG and ESP are both dual humbucker guitars. Go find a store that has one if possible and play a few rounds through a good clean channelled amp (Marshall JCMs or Carvin's Legacy both have excellent clean channels in my opinion).
As far as a comparison to the Digitech foot boards, both my roommate's brother and another old friend have one (different models). In my opinion (which is often somewhat biased) the POD kills them for sound and effect quality.
You can get a footboard to control the POD Pro also, which connects to the POD unit by a standard CAT 5 cable with RJ-45 ends. The cable that comes with the pedal board is black and about 20' long.
The thing really is a lot of great fun. I use it for effects (recording) on my bass that my ART pre-amp/effects pedal can't do (wah, flanger, distortion, overtones, etc).
Definitely test one out before you buy it though if possible. And if you can, test out the Digitech and/or Rocktron stuff too. They have some pretty decent boards out now.

Uhm. Cat-5? RJ-45? Are you sure about that? Most guitarstuff just uses MIDI for floorboards. But then again, I haven't seen a POD Pro close up.
I bought myself a used (but in mint condition) Digitech Control Seven floorboard to control my Chameleon. It's great. A shame it doesn't have an expresssion pedal on it tho. Used it in rehearsal for the first time yesterday. |

Best price I've found for it so far is £190 (uk), the pod 2.0 can also plug into the pc for new effects (i think?) also can plug into the floor board, AE- RJ-45 ends I know it uses, wouldn't suprise me if it is standard cat 5. the digitech looks good , but i'm more inclined with the pod.
Cadd- heard that pig noses sound sweet
Whir - will be playing through my aria pro (using a seymor duncan humbucker) then piping it through my laney rig, will do for now until I can save up some cash & purchase some serious cabs
cheers all for the response, looks like i might buy it, when the small loan comes through
