Edit: Sorry, shouldn't have come out so strong Epidemic. I apologize. I guess I got pissed and lost my head there for a few minutes.
Maybe now I can express myself a little more calmly and sanely...
That article
does make a good point. To me at least it seems ridiculous that we live in what's supposed to be a republic, but slowly, one by one our rights as citizens are being taken away, and for the most part we remain ignorant of the fact. And what for me is the 'hot button' is the fact that the real purpose behind these (IMO) ridiculous laws is so these huge mutibillion-dollar companies who are already rich can make a few more bucks off people who struggle to make a living. Yes, getting rich and making billions is a part of capitalism, but then making new laws that help make the rich richer and make the poor poorer is NOT a part of capitalism. And I just don't feel it's right for a company like Microsoft to charge $100 just for a
license to run a piece of software that at most is now costing them $12 to produce. (Very likely they've long since recouped their initial losses, since they've really done very little to upgrade Windows since 95 and NT3.0, besides adding bloatware.) And of course producing the license costs them mere pennies.
And about "pirated music" I think anyone would have to admit that peer-to-peer sharing software has in fact stimulated the market, thereby increasing overall sales.
