Amtrak's been running into bad times recently. Hope no one is badly hurt.

Yeah gov' ment keeps bailing them out...aren't they the only national rail company in business today?

Yes they are the only ones. Railway business is a tough business in today's time and peoples needs. They'd do well to redefine their business :

1) Address only some high density routes-DC-NYC-Boston and so on

2) Position themselves as more than a transport company- maybe like a luxury hotel on wheels- compete with hotels and planes/cars.

Requires careful marketing consideration by their management because if they call themselves a transportation company, clearly their days are numbered.

Reminds me of the company making glass bottles in the 1950s that was doing bad. The marketing consultant asked the CEO to define his business. The CEO says making glass containers of all sizes and shapes.

The consultant says no. Look at it more broadly. You are in the Packaging Business. The Company has not looked back since then. Had they continued to look at themselves as a glass container company, they'd be long gone.

yeah heard about it on the radio today.
The MARC train (umm rail/subway that goes towards maryland side) uses the same rail that goes towards MD (as opposed to the Metro that goes into VA). I dont know anybody that goes into that area thankfully

Last I heard NO fatalities... injuries were not that bad SO FAR...
