Kids Should manufacturers recycle their own?

Evidently, in Europe and Japan, computer manufacturers are required to recycle their own products at the end of their life. (Though I don't know how this works. )

It's been proposed that US companies be required to do the same, and they don't want to. They could roll in some cost up front, but their future liability in $$$ is undefined. Recycling costs might become prohibitive. Right now they stay low, because we're shipping all this toxic junk off to poor Pacific nations for recycling.

So what do we do? Who pays and how much? What about all those custom-built PC's??? Like mine???

I am curious to how this would work too. Alot of the machines will have parts in it that didnt come from the manufacturer. How would that fly?

We are too lazy to recycle unless it was made easy. Will we have a special receptacle made that separates cans, bottles, desktops?

I don't know how it'd work.

What if the company goes out of business?

In the end - like nowadays recylcing itself - this 'return dead product to manuf.' thing would end up being optional and I doubt many would bother. I mean, am I really going to spend $10-15 shipping my dead pc case?
