17 years is a long time anyway.......just think.....17 years ago I was 1 year old!, the internet and AOL were unknown, MS was a small company, the Billary Days hadn't arrived, people had actually heard of the "USSR", Cadd and Knot had less of a receding hairline, Fingers was modding the playground, Pac-man was the craze, MTV was new, Britney Spears was 3 years old. Crazy.

If it is on collision course, we would all feel the effects. The scientists say it would not be an "extinction event" but life on earth would be very different.

Optimism.
The exact trajectory of the meteorite will not be known for a while yet, so it is entirely possible it will miss us. Also we do have the capability to alter its course (without the aid of Bruce Willis), and the sooner the easier.

AFAIK we have some theories. But no fool-proof plan.

OK I'll rephrase that, we have the capability to impliment the theoretical solutions to the problem of altering the course of the meteorite.
Of course they are only theories, we haven't had to do it yet!

Show me a fool-proof plan and I'll show you a better fool.
