Wrist Pain ---- Carpal Tunnel? ? your advice?

Hello all

Lately I have been doing a lot of computer work and have developed some wrist soreness, mostly from the mouse but some typing as well. Have any of you experienced this? What can I do? Can it be the start of something bad or just my wrists getting used to the extra comp work. The soreness (not pain) is in the wrist area and has not moved to the fingers as happens in carpal tunnel.

Thanks for any advice

Get a wrist brace. Don't buy one of the cheap ones either, they fall apart after a while, and don't feel as comfortable.
Those gel pad things are pretty good also.

Yo, yo,
You don't list a location but if you are in an area where there are Vons grocery stores they carry Bauer and Black wrist braces pick one up. Or you can search for the brand in your area. I have tried them all and these are superiour for comfort, fit and durability.

Whatever you do, don't ignore it like I did, or you will wear one on earch arm 24/7 like I do trying to avoid surgery,

I used to get wrist pain & "mouse elbow", but about 9 years ago I switched to a trackball. Problem gone.

Surreal

Can you describe the pain/soreness. I am trying to figure out if its just muscle soreness or a legit problem. either way ill check out the wrist braces -- but - how do they work? do they just decrease the range of motion?
Thanks

The other computer I have here at my uncles house has a trackball, hard to get used to game with but it does help.

Also an Ergo keyboard will help when combined with a wrist-guard, or whatever that thing is called that elevates your wrists. Get the cushy ones, though, as the hard plastic does not work.

I'm getting the same problem. Mines getting pretty bad here recently. There have been nights I couldn't sleep because my entire forearm hurt.

My sister had the surgery...she advised I get some Vitamin b12, that it helped her [advised by her doctor], but it took like two weeks to take affect. But she wrestled looney patients, so the surgery was inevitable. Next time I'm shopping I'm going to pick some up [B12].

Hmmm... what are you feeling... CT is caused when you irritate the tendons in your wrist. There is some pain due to the irritation... As the irritation worsens you will get swelling of the tendons which causes pressure on a nerve which makes you hand tingle or go numb. Long term damage occurs when you get scarring of the tendons which causes constant irritation of the nerve.

I worry that I have done some damage to my hands. Not from typing or mousing... but from prolonged heavy lifting while working at a lumberyard. That was last summer... my left hand still goes numb occasionally while I sleep and almost always when I go biking.

If you have irritated those tendons it is important that you stretch them while they heal.

If your a roadie, get aero bars on the bike and your hands will thank you. They offer a great change of position.
