He didn't literally shock the kid, I believe its more like 'shock' as in suprised.
Doesn't make it right, but it sounds more like he scared the kid more than anything... article said the kid was in his 3rd year so kid was probably still pretty young.

I know what the article meant, that shocked at the demo. Still back@$$ward demostration tho. Why not used a prop instead.
