The Ex Mad Cows Need You!

Fellow TechIMO members.

Our community now has over 60,000 members. Most are however, not active users, but there are many that are what we call lurkers. Wheter you are a lurker or just a new active member, this is for you.

For almost a year, TechIMO has had a team in the distributed computing project commonly known as UD. This team has proven to be one of the most excellent teams on the UD project, climbing from somewhere around #1700 into the Top 50 in less than a year.

It has recently come to our attention that another team are racing up the stats. This team is known as PC911.

PC911 has 280 members. This is almost 40% more than we have. That is why they manage to produce more points than us on a daily basis.

Here's where you come in: Please please please please join The Ex Mad Cows for the battle with PC911. The UD client only uses spare CPU cycles. It is very easy to install, from my experience it causes no conflicts with other software, it's very easy to remove should you decide you don't want to help find a cure for cancer and you will get to experience true Team Spirit.

Ask not what science can do for your computer. Ask what your computer can do for humanity.

Join us now!

/Thank You for your time. Agent_Embryo, Ex Mad Cow.

LOL nice cheesy ending there AE
I'm sure many of us around here including myself has had a family member afflicted with Cancer. This application literally helps crunch numbers for scientists to find a cure for cancer, the UD link provided above (www.ud.com) can provide more information than my ignorant self Anyways, its a simple install once you install it if you're on broadband you can minimize and you'll never see it again! It does the rest by itself. If you're on dialup you download another app where you can cache up slots so occasionally when you go online you upload finished work units, and download new ones and it does the rest by itself!

If you have ANY questions DO feel free to ask. Regardless of our competition with other teams it IS for a good cause. If you wish you can PM myself or one of the other UD members and we'd be more than happy to try to help you out to get on the team

And welcome to the team ahead of time lol

<--- also a UD Cruncher with Ex Mad Cows
(sorry.. to be politically correct.. the formerly deranged bovines )

Oh and for the network safety concious, of the thousands of people that are included in this project I'm positive a good number of people have sniffed the hell out of this app to make sure its not sending personal info or opening any holes so it is safe for kids 3 and over

The client is very un-intrusive - not only is it a good thing - it's also a lot of fun!

I'll join in the call for more crunchers!

And to put this project into a scientific perspective, it is not looking for a nebulous "cure" for cancer, but is looking at better and novel ways to fight it.

The main thrust is to select target proteins which can attack only cancer cells, and then load them up with cell-killing chemicals and send 'em to work. The main problems with current cancer therapy is the treatments often affect useful cells as well as cancer cells, making the sufferer sick in other ways. So targeting just the cancer cells would make treatment much more effective as well as much more tolerable.

So this research is valid and sound. Check out http://www.chem.ox.ac.uk/cancer/goals.html for more.

So come on, join in!!

Cheers
Mick

BTW It's also fun to be part of the Ex Mad Cows Team. A little side benefit.

How will it run with the Folding@home client? If they will share the CPU cycles then I will help out.
I have a Duron 900
