Custom truck consoles

I've had my car stereo stuff stolen before.... wasn't happy.. in order to make it more hidden I want to leave the stock head unit in place.. and put my after market head unit into a console up front.

If you take a look at the following, it will give you an idea of what I mean.

http://www.chevrolet.com/silverado/m...a/qtvr_int.htm

The LT series includes a cassete deck.. which is located below the air conditioning.. it looks as part of the center console in the picture.

I have the LS series.. which the middle there is empty.. I would like to add something similar to that tape deck.. it needs to be against the dash (for the most part) and not on the floor. It has to be just big enough for a head unit, with a little extra space for bracing as well as to make it look not like a head unit.

*How/where to purchase a console for my head unit* (NOT ON THE FLOOR)

I found this down towards the bottom of the page

I'm having problems with the link. I need quicktime, and I'm on an old machine that won't play movies.

Anyway what year of truck is it?

thanks for the reply... yeah that is pretty close...

but if possible I would like it sort of floor standing up against the dash.. sort of how the casette player is depicted in the link..

I know what your looking for, but I can't seem to find a place on the web selling one. I used to have one in a Dodge 4x4 I had with cassette player on the left, Eq on the right, and a place for tapes in the middle also had speakers underneath. Guess they phased those out too.
I'll keep looking, see what I can come up with.
Have you thought about building one? Make it out of thin plywood, and cover it with carpet the right color. That way you get exactly what you need

Yeah I have somewhat thought about it.. but would prefer to buy it if possible...

maaaaybe on the carpet.. would like to match the plastic material the dash is made of if possible..but second runner up would probably be to match the carpet..

The cd-player needs to be hidden.. so if I built it.. would have to make a secret compartment... maybe a flap that is carpeted that will flip up..

wood? if i built something i would probably fiberglass it?

Couldn't see the vid on the like, but something like this?
http://www.crutchfield.com/cgi-bin/S...999000&o=m&a=0

Someone would be able to make exactly what you want out of wood but would cost more.

Btw, did the deck have the face off it and still get stolen, or was it not a removable face (just curious)?

well.. i had two amplifiers and subwoofers that were stolen also... the face was on the cd-unit and not removed at the time.. the vehicle was parked outside my house..

I checked out the crutchfield link.. i have purchased through them previously... something like that would be a good start!

Could use that as a base to mount the head unit.. and then build over the top of it to disguise it.. (using wood/fiberglass)

If possible.. I would also like to install an A/B switch.. so I can select which head unit I want to use.. so that the stock HU will still be operable if I ever choose to use it..

I don't mind mounting at a slight angle if mounting depth is a problem.. but this thing is roomy so I doubt it!
