Would you pay $200 difference for 6" more on a widescreen HDTV ?

Sony brand... 51" is $1800 while a 57" is $2000. Keep in mind it's widescreen (so they measure diagonally?).

Opinions ?

Depends, how much area do you want to cover? [ie how much of the wall? Alot of it, not that much? I'd say spring for the $2000 model if you have the money, but make sure there's not a cheaper Panasonic/Philips TV out there first.

Do you already have a progressive scan DVD player? You'll want one of those, as your new television will be able to take full advantage of it, not so much because of widescreen but because of the support for the 480p resolution that offers 60 frames per second on DVD's played on a progressive scan player.

What is this DVI port I hear about? Can someone explain this? People are saying to hold out for models with the DVI port.

I'm actually asking for my parents... they want one right now and I'd just like more opinions. We have an older (Nov '99) Sony DVD player and I don't know if it does progressive scan.

BTW, a DVI port is something that would let you hook the monitor to your computer via Digital connection (DVI port). If your parents don't want to use it as a monitor, don't worry about it.

DVI is the new digital interface. The connection between your monitor and computer currently is analog.

I wouldn't hold out. The only major advantage I've heard of (for the end user) is less chance of signal loss and interference. But it is a more versatile interface.

Prob almost identical tvs, so either one would be fine IMO. Looking at a 65 and 56 side-by-side I couldn't tell a lot of difference. Personaly I would go with the smaller one because it's a little easier to handle (but I'm lazy).
