Augusta attacked by feminism group
Well, we've covered religion, immigration, smoking, etc. Why not sexism and feminism. http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/gol...usta_women_ap/
The chairman reacted defiantly to NCWO demanding women be offered memberships prior to next years Master.
I say...good for him. If they allow it under pressure from the NCWO, I am going to apply at Naturally Women for a membership.
If they want a golf course to themselves, let them build one. It will probably be as sucesssful and the WNBA.

Hey, I am amazed they can get away with their current practices. I hope they get admitted. It is ridiculous to keep them out. Their admittance and/or LPGA tourney there will not detract from Augusta National. I woul djust ensure that the LPGA tourneys hold to the same standard of secrecy as the men's tourney. (They can only show certain holes on TV)

Dave, I didn't know that about golf and TV. Wonder what's going on at the other holes.
I don't have a problem with women being admitted, but the same standards should be applied to Natrually Women.
Basically, that's my point.

They just don't want the mistique of the course to be completely given away by televising the entire tourney. They loosened things up a little this year on the coverage though.

Well, it took them a heck of a long time to open it up to non-white players: http://espn.go.com/premium/tours/col...ob/463062.html Quote: |
[Lee] Elder became the first African-American golfer to participate in The Masters in 1975... . Augusta National had been under pressure for several years to invite a black golfer, but resisted under the guise that none had qualified. In 1972, the tournament changed its rules so that any player who won an official PGA Tour event automatically qualified.
| Sure would have been embarrassing not to have Tiger there.

Yep, I agree with the attitude so far, go ahead and let them golf who cares. But as fatal x said, you gotta give a little then too.
There's a fitness center chain here that does not have a facility by my home, well they do have one but it's for women only. All others are open to everyone. I belong to another chain, but this one has better machines and hours. Drives me nuts. These sorts of feminists are not familiar with equality.
Another good example is the focus to boost women's interest in math and science and higher education. While on the other hand men suffer in English/grammar, writing, and liberal arts education. Plus women are much more likely to attend college and complete it to receive a degree. Yet, no worry about the men.
I'm all for equality, just not the usual swinging pendulum cure.
Sorry, I got a little off thread.

When it comes to clubs I have not understood why you cannot select based on any means. If I wish to hang out at an all mens club then so be it. I would prefer a club that has both for myself. However if I want an all male of irish and indian decent gay club why does any one have any say in that? again off topic but Thrush got me sucked in. |
