cabinet installation

I will soon be installing the cabinets in my new kitchen and looking for the best way to mount the uppper wall cabinets, supporting them while the screws are put in place.
I have been looking at getting one of these,Cabinet Pro , to support the cabinet while it is being attached.
Any recommendations?

Is it expensive? Perhaps a home built frame would be cheaper?

do you have soffits to butt the top of your cabinets to,or is there gonna be a space between the top of the cabinets and the ceiling? if you have soffits to shove the top of the cabinets up to,you shouldnt need one of those, just get someone to help you jamm em up there. have you ever installed cabinets before??

some suggestions

you have to predrill for every screw going thru the styles.(sp? styles are the solid pieces of the front of cabinets that the doors shut against.)

get a wax ring for a toilet (a NEW one- LOL) and stick the screws,in the was ring before you use em. expecially when you screw the cabinets together thru the stiles. makes screwing EXTREMELY easier.

get a few small bar clamps or even a few good sized C-clamps to clamp the cabinets stiles togather before screwing.

take proper measurements and start screws on the inside of cabinets before raising them up,so you can just screw em in without haveing to figger out where the studs in the walls are.

you could make one of those things out of a couple of peices of 1X4

have extra screwdriver tips around for your cordless drill.

i d be happy to answer any questions, mad. pm me

There are no soffits,I will be putting low wattage rope light across the top of the cabinets.

Located one at a local rental store. $35.00/day or $70.00/3 days.

draboo,
Sounds like you have done this before. Would a used wax ring make it easier? The tips that you suggested are identical to the ones that I just received from the company that I purchased the cabinets from.I knew the salesman before he went into selling cabinets and he is from my area, this helps with getting suport.

Thanks everyone.

Waxing the screws makes the effort used to screw them in MUCH less. And that will help prolong the charge on you drill, or the charge in your arm, whichever you are using.

Bar soap will work as well as a wax ring if you do not have one handy.

Hi, Mad, Ditto everything Draboo said, especially the bar clamps or 'C' clamps, and the waxed screws. (And soap is good as well, like Gomer said.)

I don't know how much of the following is obvious or not, but maybe there's some help in it, so...

Make sure to establish a 'baseline' on the wall where the bottom of the cabinet will line up with. Level it. If the ceiling is kinda crooked (they sometimes are) you'd rather have a level bottom line. (In other words, don't measure off the ceiling.)

Use a studfinder to locate the studs before you do anything. Then attach 2"x2" pieces under the shelves, (since these won't be attaching to an overhead soffitt) measure out where the screws will hit the studs, and prestart 'em like Draboo said. Reason is, once you've got that heavy sucker in place, you wanna just go wham-wham-wham with the screwdriver.

I'm sure you know not to screw anything into drywall and expect it to stay (okay, I know, obvious!! )

On screws, the coarse-threaded drywall screws will really 'grab' when they go into a stud. 3-1/2"-ers will do nicely.

Can't think of anything else off hand. Hope this isn't TOO redundant!

I have a laser level that I can use to level the cabinets, don't want to attach a board to the wall and have to repair the holes.
Rented a lift to support the cabinets while I am mounting them, save a little arm strengt and help to ge the cabinets straight.

Thanks for the tips everyone, the job should go a little smoother.

I will try to post pictures of the kithcen when I am finished, hopefully in a month I will be done.
