Texas boy beaten, hospitalized over Bible study

Article at CNN.

Quote:
Austin police arrested a church pastor and his twin brother Tuesday, alleging they used a tree branch to beat unconscious an 11-year-old who misbehaved in Bible class.
Quote:
...Court records obtained by Reuters alleged that the beating lasted for 90 minutes, broke blood vessels and caused the boy's kidneys to fail...
I hope these sicko's get the the proper punishment, maybe the same punishment they gave the 11 year old boy?

CM, I'd GLADLY drive the 2 hours to Austin from my home to "adminster" a little of those 2 ba$tards brand of "old time religion" back to them.
I was reading in my local paper how they told the family that they couldn't "break" him, and suggested more beatings should be given by the family!
It pi$$es me off to no end when I hear of people doing this stuff to kids...
One good thing, these two will have to be put in a separate location in the jail, as well as when or if they go to prison, because the inmates will have a real fun time with them if they ever find out why they are really there.

My best friends mother is a guard in a pre-release facility(like a minimum security prison) just down the road from my house, and asked if it was true what happened to child molesters, wife beaters, and those who did this kind of thing, she told me that they will get a little "prison justice" if the population ever finds out what they are in for.

They are usually advised to say they are in for something like bad check writing or something..

I wouldn't mind risking a little time as a ward of the state, just to find them on the street and dispense a little Texas style A$$ whoopin' on both of them..
And then, I'd play that Toby Keith song, and act out the last verse.

what are 22 year olds doing in Texas that they are issued that type of responsibility? I would never entrust someone that young with my children let alone have them instill the "wonderous and loving tenents of christianity."

if you can't tell there was sarcasm there.

Seriously tho thats messed up that these two (caleb and Joshua- someones parents were messed up) would tag team an 11 year old that they were left alone with. someone might think that the parents may bear some responsibility here as well.

Also think that the religion bears responsibility but thats not here or there now.

just me two cents.

That's a bunch of crock! If that's so then every case of child abuse done by an institution that's expected to care for our children should be held responsible.
The parents took their child to Vacation Bible school.. The buck stops with the pastor of the church.

Blaming religion for the acts of individuals is a hardly a fair accessment. Horrific acts of cruelty are hardly limited to any group.

The buck stops with the person(s) that commited the crime.

Fingers, at what point is the person that hired the perpetrators responsible for their actions? Being a church leader has a high responsibility, the pastor is the leader and hires people to lead in his interprations of the church doctrine... Do you really think this was out of the blue and a total surprise to everyone? Perhaps he preached spare the rod and spoil the child a bit too vigorously...

You can't hold the employer responsible for the acts of the employee, unless there's reasonable evidence that the employer neglected his duties or had specific knowledge that a crime was about to happen.

BTW, In my denomination, the church board has to approve the hiring of all staff, I don't know if this is applicable here, but using your logic, the commitee that approved this person would be equally responsible.

Whether the decision to hire a 22yr old was prudent or not, the 22yr old and his brother are still the ones that made the decision to beat the ever-living-daylight out of this child and they are the ones who should be held accountable for thier crimes.

Very good point. And since I have no idea what the protocol was for that organization I have no right making any judgements as to my imagined hirearchy....

Our church does background checks of all staff and volunteers. We have very specific rules about "contact" with kids and very specific security procedures. And we haven't had any problems, because everyone who wants to work knows right up front what the rules are. BTW, we're just a small independent church and it's not that difficult or expensive to do this.
