Tax-deduction question

A buddy of mine and I are thinking about throwing a charity Chesapeake Bay fishing tournament to benefit a local 3 year-old girl under going chemo for bone-marrow cancer at Johns Hopkins. Her family does not have health insurance, and badly needs help from the community. Yesturday, my buddy thought of the idea while we were working, and asked me if I would like to help him organize it.

We have the know-how and all the resources needed to throw an awesome tournament, but, I would like to be able to give the sponsors atleast a tax-deduction on their donations. How, and where do I need to go or who do I need to contact about setting up a tax-deductable event?

The idea was just brewed up yesturday, and we really do not have any other details at the moment, and we still are not sure if we are going to actually host the tournament, but Im gonna start researching some things.

Thanks for any help or information!

Send a message via ICQ to brandon184
Contact your local IRS office for starters. But then again, I have absolutely no idea what I'm talking about.

BTW - Awesome idea!! ..
